Just donated £20 to comic relief! Feeling pretty good! Are there any fund raising shows like this in America?

A charity which does a fundraising TV show annually at this time every year. A lot of supermarkets, shops, schools, famous people etc. do loads of work to fund raise around this time of the year as well. It alternates, one year people do funny things for comic relief then the next year they do sports events and its called sport relief. All the money goes to helping people in the UK (young carers, old people with dementia, people with disabilities) but most go to Africa to support education, improve health care, fight malaria etc.

Last year they raised £71.8million and are on track to beat that this year

That's a shame. We have 2 every year. Children in need and comic relief. They made a combined total of £104 million last year ( $153 million). Such a huge amount of money, helps so much!!

weve got a couple local ones that do it every year,  i know theres a christmas one, a variety one that covers a range of childrens charities.  The canucks, our hockey team, used to do one for a game during the season,   They arent really as popular as they've been in the past though.
