PS2 had every price cut in March.

Well I'm not saying there isn't a precedent for it, and I believe it was Tachikoma who claimed a price drop in the Spring, but I guess I just expected an E3 or September price drop. Is this a strong feeling you have?

Explain. If VGC sales are anything close to reality they won't need to drop the price yet.

The Order dropped by only 56% in the UK in its second week. Much less than people were expecting. Most AAA games seem to drop at least 60%

The Order: 1886 2nd week > 15,986 (-56%)

The Order: 1886 LTD > 52,113

Dying Light

PS4 (57%)
XBO (40%)
PC (3%)

Dragon Ball Xenoverse

PS4 (50%)
XBO (32%)
360 (9%)
PS3 (9%)

Sony shouldn't be content with just being #1. They should be looking to sell as much as they can make. They were, for the most part of 2014, doing that. With a 400 dollar price, that's not gonna transfer over to 2015, their production is relaxing. Time to put some stress on it again. Get as many as possible on board, get that userbase growth for PS+, PSNow, PSVue, software, etc. Get the dough rolling in as quickly and early as possible. On top of that it'd also make Nintendo and specially MS bleed more than they already are, as well as having better financials to further secure more exclusive products to ensure HW legs.

But price drops in August/sept are usually much more effective than those in spring/summer...
They should wait

The major Japanese retailer Tsutaya just released its weekly chart for the week between February 23nd and March 1st. Tsutaya's charts are related only to the retailer itself, but they're considered a quite good indicator of how the general Japanese market, due to the number of Tsutaya stores across the country.

But it can also reduce the effectiveness of holiday deals or cause holiday stock issues. So i think it'd be wiser to do it no later than June.

I don't think so. September is a time where sales are about to start to rise. First it'll get a boost due to the new boost and then it'll get a bigger boost than normal during the holidays because more people are looking for consoles then and the price of entry will be lower. If the price drops earlier in the year most people will be aware of the new price already and so they're going to expect real deals, which XB1 will have plenty of. Look at XB1 sales last year. Horrible all year until the price drop and deals in the holidays.
