i understand plots are important for movies. But same can be said for games. Point I'm trying to make is that you don't hear movie critics make statements like, "this movie didn't do anything unique from standards of the last 100 years. You just sit there and watch a screen for a couple hours" like they do in game reviews.
Well they do sometimes if it's a particularly generic movie.

They've been doing it for awhile now.
i don't know if you picked up my point so let me clarify. I meant that they write reviews since the media predetermined the talking points for the order since it's first reveal. If media didn't nitpick this game I doubt digital foundry would feel the need to comment on gameplay

but that is commenting on plot. Cinematography has basically hit a wall. The camera shoots from one angle or another while the story plays out. And people are okay with it. As long as the story is entertaining. Games however, for some reason, need to revolutionize their genres each generation or get critically shame on

Nah like I said, cinematography in Birdman is very unique. Just watch it!
But I think the issue might be because games are interactive and movies are not and thus they have different standards expected of them.

I think it's cause games are still new and evolving. Compare a game today to a game just 5 years ago. Outside of graphics, there's still a ton of new changes.

Now compare a modern film to one 50 years ago. The art has done a great job at perfecting itself and tastes change, but it's really still the same.
