Gamepad is being dropped?

Rumored that it's being dropped in a new Wii U package for $170

IMO gamepad and Kinect were a major mistake since beggining.

Unless it's a Vita price drop

WiiU for $170 would be crazy. I don't think the pad costs that much

The Gamepad for the Wii U was Nintendo trying too hard to create a unique control scheme again. They should have focused on putting more power in the hardware and creating a robust online infrastructure. For the Kinect, the excitement of motion sensitive gaming started wearing off in 2010. Within two years it was practically dead.

It's a huge part of the console's cost. It's the reason they didn't want to put more power into the machine because it would have raised costs by quite a bit. Remember, Nintendo doesn't operate like Microsoft or Sony. They don't want losses or hair-thin profits on their hardware. They want to make a fair amount off of each sale.

You should make some games for it.

Iwata has gone on record, indirectly stating the controller is 100 dollars.  He specifically said they could sell their console for 100 dollars cheaper without it.

Source?

I saw some rednecks using PS Move on Justified yesterday. It was not the latest season (but season 4), and I think they were playing Starhawk. Well, it's a Sony show...so.

Yeah, and that's still $200. I don't find this $169 thing likely. They would first go to $250 or $200
