More users, not just more posts.
They are related though.  More posts = more activity = more interest= more users = more posts.
Or something along those lines.

So I did some checking into Judge's Week since it's why people are saying the conferences won't be exciting. Turns out, that's battleship. Here's why.

1) It is NOT a trial run for the press conferences. It's not about flash or spectacle. It is simply publishers trying to win early praise by veteran journalists for the games they show them. The event is very utilitarian. Interviews are conducted in hotel rooms. There is nothing fancy about it. It's only about whatever games the publishers bring. So the judges have no idea how the conferences will actually be and what all will be shown and how. They won't know anything about new hardware, price drops, features and services, or instant game collections being expanded. It is, as I said, simply about trying to get the judges to give praise to certain games.

2) Only games in playable form are shown. If a judge can't pick up a controller and play it, it's not at Judge's Week. So that means that games which are not playable, for example if neither Media Molecule nor Guerrilla Games have made a demo of their new IP, then the game will not be there. Judges will be teased about other games but they will be shown nothing.

3) Publishers are not required to do anything. Even if a publisher has a playable form of a game they are not obligated to make it available to the judges before E3. They can hold the game until then. Some publishers didn't even show up this year. Nintendo, Ubisoft, and Square Enix completely skipped the event, among others. A publisher has no minimum amount of games they must show to be present. So it's entirely possible that Sony just showed up with Driveclub and The Order and said, "Gee sorry. That's all we have...".

4) Judge's Week is mostly about making veteran journalists feel elite. Only 40 judges go to the event and nearly all of them are people who are very difficult to make excited about something. They are also the ones responsible for manufacturing hype about certain games when they do get excited. Titanfall? You can thank the judges of 2013 for that. They're the ones who blew the game out of proportion based on very little time with the game in an incomplete form.

5) Most of the more impressive games shown off at E3 are never shown at Judge's Week. Watch Dogs, revealed at E3 2012? Was not seen by the judges prior. The Division, revealed at E3 2013? Same thing. Was not seen by the judges before then.

Bottomline, Judge's Week is not at all a good indication of how these press conferences will play out. Many games are left out and saved for surprise reveals. The judges who go are the kind who don't get hyped by very much. They don't know what the press conferences will be like. So basically, tell Thuway to shut the fudge up since that's where he's getting his "inside information" about whether or not the conferences will be good.

I expect Soony™ to reintroduce Shadown of Beast at that E3... so long since it was talked something about it.

"Judges Week" sounds aweful.  Seems like an event used to stroke the ego of these 13 year old man children.

It pretty much is. There is actually little reason for it. Many games won't actually be judged until E3 is over. It's just a way for publishers to win early praise from the journalists who attend. It could never happen again and no one would know the difference except the guys who keep getting called back to have their egos massaged again.

Haha not sure if serious or...

But if you are, look at what I wrote a couple posts up to get the idea. It's what Thuway was using as "inside information" about what we should expect from the press conferences this year. Thing is, even people on NeoGAF who went basically said that judges week is a poor indicator of what the conferences will be like.

serious. from what i get its like a pre-event for some journalist like a week before E3, where they get to play games that will be shown. but wont know the full line up of the games being shown at E3. just a select few. and nothing is mandatory?

Correct. Only games that are in a playable form are made available to them. Games that are not playable won't be there and publishers are not required to bring all or any of their playable games. Which is why several major publishers didn't even show up to Judges Week this year. The word coming out of the event is that the judges didn't get their hands on much that impressed them. Thuway, of course, immediately ran with this as "the conferences won't be what people hope".

Famous gets a bit less of my attention thanks not only to what we did with the Col Rodgers incident but because after that he seems to be way too cautious and only seems to say something when another "insider" does. Shinobi is clearly legit. Thuway just needs to shut up already.

I really wish someone had a running list of all the things these insiders were right and wrong about and who said what first.
