AI pretty good at search

The new google search that is AI powered sure sucks though.

"Does running watch X support .mp4a files?"

Google blurb on the top lied to me and said yes. My running watch's app clearly lists that it does not, and I would have saved time by just checking there instead of google.


Oh and cause this is the movie thread... Wtf 28 years later part two releases this week? I saw my first ad for it. There was such a marketing campaign for part 1, this one feels like it's being dumped unless I've just missed everything.

so like.. i feel like already addressed that:

listen,.. AI is pretty good at search.   (...)  well,... it's good at giving answers to well documented questions.   when the question asked doesn't have a lot of supporting documentation the answers given are a whole lot of bullsh!t and AI needs to be better at simply saying "i don't know" instead providing a wrong answer.

that is similar to my example from a month or so ago where i had an issue with my washing machine and AI gave me the "right answer" but from the wrong brand of washing machines.  i have a whirlpool but the answer i got was sourced to a link that very clearly stated it was a different brand.   GE i think but i could be wrong.  the question was around interpreting the displayed error code so getting the wrong answer absolutely mattered.


so again, if i don't really care about the answer i getting being 100% factual then whatever,.. AI is fine.  if that movie theatre revenue % is complely fake news whatever,.. i was already holding onto a fake news answer so i'm not any worse today than i was yesterday.   but when accuracy matters AI is wrong too often to be trusted for me.   i need like 99.99% accuracy and i'd guess AI is at best 90%.   10% might not feel like much but being lied to 10% of the time is a really big deal to me.

he's super into AI and really hates meetings and constantly speaks out against them.  i'm constantly asking the teams to reach out to me when they have questions.    but several times now we've had to completely to mostly throw out 1 to 2 sprints (3 - 6 weeks) of works when the team worked on the wrong assumptions.  that almost 1000 hours off wasted effort to avoid about 5-10 manhours of communication.

AI is pretty good at search.  we all have a pile of documents with thousands of pages of stuff written down and none of us are good at locating the right part of the right document at the right time.  AI is pretty good at sifting through a pile of text and locating the relevant bits.  well,... it's good at giving answers to well documented questions.  when the question asked doesn't have a lot of supporting documentation the answers given are a whole lot of bullsh!t and AI needs to be better at simply saying "i don't know" instead providing a wrong answer.

but on the other side of things,... i've had search via google for like 25 years now.  i've had google translations for most of that.  AI isn't this multi trillion dollar amazingly new technology that the AI bros want to sell me on.  it's a sometimes improved, sometimes worse version of the technology i've been using for decades.

I saw people talking about 28 years later, and was wondering why it was coming up again. Didn't realize it was a sequel.

Yeah. 
AI is interesting for a lot of uses, if I just want something I don't care about. 

Search feels like the only thing that it feels like it is genuinely a good thing. It's obviously not 100% accurate, but it's very good, when you're not even sure what to search for. 

for meaningless crud in which having a correct answer is completely unimportant?  sure.
