you have to be going at least a minium distance to make flying worth it.   maybe ya'll can get in/out faster than me but a flight means going to the airport like 4 hours before the flight and from the airport to a hotel likely adds another 2 hours.   add in the flight time and even the shortest of flights takes up a day of travel time.   also it's pretty stressful.

driving chicago can be stressful too but the highways between cities can be quite nice sometimes.

my brother is in twin cities Mn and it's not even a question if i'm going to drive.   the drive is ~6.5 hours.  The flight would probably be 8 hours and loads more expensive.   that trip is just over 400 miles.

we flew to NYC which is just under 800 miles.   helps that once we got to NYC having a car would have been a detriment not an asset.

Yeah honestly Indianapolis doesn't have tons of direct flights to Orlando, especially at this time of the year. Most all delta is through Atlanta, which can be a shame show for normal operations let alone with this garbage going on now.  We had a direct flights with spirit a few months ago but those idiots changed their schedule and had us flying into New Jersey at 5am then layover another 5 hours before flying to Orlando.

So we went American with the charlotte layover. We are about an hour or so from the Indy so by the time we actually would land in Florida it's already 10ish hours of travel time. So it really wasn't that much more to drive. Just being cramped in the car for longer but not that bad

Direct flights are also a decent bit more expensive sometimes

a bit of insider knowledge here,.. i haven't seen any news on this.   scouting america is officially allowing co-gender troops.

there was a "pilot program" going on for the last year.   today my troop was informed that the "family troop" will be officially supported as a 3rd option (boy only, girl only) on Dec 15th.   a bit of a sigh of relief here as if they didn't approve that our troop would totally have blown up.   it's kind of amazing how liberal scouting as become since i was a kid.    not like liberal liberal but like tolerant and respectful of women.

My troop as a kid always had a girl. She of course wasn't an official boy scout but I remember her at most meetings and outings.
