ps2 turned 25 today!

dang... Makes me feel old as shame. What an amazing console, definitely an end of an era of old school gaming. I feel PS360 gen was the time when online truly became a thing and we transitioned into modern gaming.

Yup.

I guess I probably played Halo 2 online, but all I can remember for sure is having to buy the extra disc when the new maps came out. PS360 was when everything changed.

I prefer to think of it the last time any substantial innovation in gaming occured.  things have stagnated since then.

I mean ... I can't discount VR. It hasn't taken off and it faced challenges, but it's certainly something.

I'm considering your point...

...is a failed innovation and innovation?   like yes VR is cool in moments but overall the experiences are broken, inconsistent, incomplete.  

I haven't played my VR headset in years now so I'm back to just playing psWii60 era games.

There has been a lot of innovation.

It's just really rare on the aaa side nowadays.
