Would anyone here be interested in participating in a "book club" but for video games?

The idea is that basically there aren't that many of us here and i would say most of us aren't buying games day-1 anyways so that "being there in the moment to talk about our shared experience" doesn't really happen here.  I got the idea reading legend blog about "Vintage Story" thinking about how I'm getting nothing out of this because I've never even heard of this game before.  So in order to promote that spirit of discussion how about we all play the same game so we can talk about it.

so basically:

Step 1: Vote as a group on a game we will all play.

In my opinion older games that are cheap would be best.  We could pay attention to sales as i'm not trying to be a financial burden on anyone.  ..but most importantly it should be a game none of us have played yet.

Step 2: Everyone plays this week's assignment.

In my opinion play something that has obvious progression so that we can all play the same bits of the game over the same period of time.  Aka a game like uncharted we could easily say everyone plays chapters 1-5 this week where a game like minecraft would be difficult to ensure we are all having a shared experience.  I would like to make small weekly assignments because 1) i'm play games really slowly and 2) i don't want this to monopolize 100% of my video game time in a week.

Step 3:  Everyone is "required" to make at least 1 post with their thoughts about that week's assignment.

"Required" is in quotes because life happens and I get that sometimes we all get too busy to play games.  this is just a way to promote more active discussions.

Anyone want to participate?

I love the idea, but I don't play consistently enough that I feel like I could participate.

And I doubt that it will get better with a new born in two months. Even though the other 3 are becoming more self sufficient.

Legend

Love the idea too, but a monthly game would work much better for me than a weekly game.

lol, not a game a week.  i'd never keep up.  my son is in a book club and it's 2 books a year.   each week he is assigned like 2-3 chapters which for the books he reads may only be like 10-20 pages.

so using Uncharted 4 as an example....   U4 has 23 chapters.

Week 1: chapters 1, 2, 3
Week 2: 4, 5, 6
Week 3: 7. 8. 9
Week 4: 10, 11, 12
Week 5: 13, 14, 15
Week 6: 16, 17, 18
Week 7: 19, 20, 21
Week 8: 22, 23

so like 2 months to play 1 game.   we could go faster or slower as we wish but in general i would expect the games to be played though slowly so this doesn't become all consuming but also so we can discuss each part of the story and gameplay as it is introduced or whatever.

Now we need to figure out our first game...

I'm a cheapskate so I like games on deep discounts and "free" ones on gamepass and free ones on Epic, but I'm happy to buy new games here and there. Anyone else interested in Kingdom Come 2 next month?  ;D

understandable.

you're more than welcome to join anyways.  like i said to legend i don't want each week to be a huge commitment.  hopefully just a couple hours or so.  and if you end up behind than whatever.

Have you played Batman Arkham games? Those are regularly like $5 for I think all 3 games.

(I've played them all, but I wouldn't mind an excuse to replay them).

Those are the games on your list I haven't played.

I bought entropy centre on steam last year, just haven't played it yet. A fair few of the rest are on gamepass and/or I got from one service or another through the years.

I have not. I also still need to play Bioshock 1 and 2.

A few games on Kitler's list I'd enjoy replaying.

traditionally i've avoided FF like the plague but this holiday sale i bought the final fantasy twin pack (remaster/rebirth).   my co-op buddy raves about them and i just kind of want to be able to talk to him about them.   also it's the menu driven turn based gameplay of FF1-6 that i loath.   the newer more action based gameplay looks much more fun to me.

I've started psychonauts 2 but have yet to finish. Would be a good way to get me to finish. Lol
