Never thought about making homemade fig newtons before.
i made it didn't i?

don't know what fish intended by this thread.   ...and i cook a lot and wouldn't normally post about it but i was particularly happy with how this one turned out and i figured this thread made more sense than starting a new one.   unless you want to make a dedicated cooking thread.   i suppose i could post in that quite often as i take on a new something or other every month or two.

but yeah, posted the fig newtons because i figured it was a pretty uncommon thing to even try.   ...and the recipe was top notch.   it was strange,.. the final product is very cake like but the dough is very much like cookie dough.   there is a mandatory step to put the cookies directly into a air tight container after the oven to "rehydrate" the cookie or else it is really dry and gross.   overall not particularly hard but one of my quirkiest recipes i've made.

i did overfill though.  the final cookies were like twice the size of store bought.   i think i'd try to shrink that down if i do it again.

All but done redoing my parents' patio. Most of the bricks could be reused but they wanted to expand the patio so they bought 1,000 new bricks.

i had another "work weekend" to work on the house.   4 days without kids/wife around to distract me.   I didn't take any pics but:

1. I retrimmed the entire downstairs.
  - It don't know that it had to be done but it was a personal annoyance that there was 4 styles of trim.  not just different rooms either.  they touched.
2. i stripped the paint off my stairs and replaced the decorative trim.
  - was just old and painted too many times.  looked bad.
3. painted the living room and family room
  - 14' ceilings in the family room were a challenge.
4. painted the ceilings in living room, dining room, and kitchen.

plus a handful of little things like i cleaned the ceiling fan in the family room since i borrowed an extra tall ladder to do the painting.  holy crud that was gross.

overall i'm freaking exhausted.  i attempted too much for 4 days.  but my house looks nice overall.  only problem was i intended to (and didn't start) to paint the trim.  so now i have to do that on nights/weekends because my wife will kill me if i leave that for next year's work weekend.

Turns out my component converters didn't work cause I didn't connect the audio jacks.  Said audio jacks were connecting the ground for the video jacks.
:D ... :'( :'( :'( :'(

Thought I'd give an info dump on my arcade projects.

Composite/S-Video Converter:
I got it working.  But CPS3(Street Fighter 3, Jo Jo's Bizarre Adventure, etc) didn't work.  Apparently its sync is off spec.  So like, it worked but colour and black levels are off so I put together a new concept where I use the generated V-Sync from my sync cleaner and feed the H and V sync into the video converter.  Apparently it works.  So I put the circuit together and something is broken.  I was tired of soldering these things together so I bought a small heat plate.  I think it did something to either the crystal, hex inverter or something.  The op amp I'm using to filtering the composite converter isn't working and S-Video is giving me the equivalent of snow.  But I had that issue before when I got some mostly completed samples from the PCB place I'm ordering, so I'm going to have to put together another one together the hard way and see if my soldering job is bad or if my design is bad (I was getting damaged op amps, etc from China and I think it was from the automated soldering).

Component converter:
Works good.

USB converter:
So I integrated the Arduino converter into the main arcade interface.  The programmer I'm using is a pain in the dog, but the thing works.  But I just tried these new Hori Street Fighter controller I won at EVO in a raffle.  They don't work, which means the open source code I'm using needs to be updated but I don't know how to go about updating it myself.  So I might go back to my raspberry Pi idea.  I have that in the back of my head for when I switch to getting my Naomi games working.

PlayStation AV port:
So I decided to make my own version of Sony's AV port so I could use PlayStation Component and Composite cables.  The PCB I built works but it's loose on with my original cables.  The third party cables are too tight to the point of shaving the solder mask.  So I got a closer look at the AV port.  I have to encase my PCB with an adapter.  Like the original AV port is a plastic casing with pins attached.  I don't know what pins they're using, so I can't make my own like that, but I also noticed the bottom is wider than the top so like, the base has grooves in between the pins and the first and last groove is flush with the cable jack while the bottom is wider and flush with the bottom part.  So I have to see if my PCBs are thin enough to be encased.  Like, they fit otherwise, but they can slide.  So I at least have to make the groves to prevent the pins from sliding.

It's in there.  :o

It's called Thread of Making if you're actually looking at the thread, near the bottom.

if it helps this is the recipe I used.  I like these sorts that explain the nuance of the recipe when I'm cooking new things.
