imo,...

kojima asked and sony decided the relationship to kojima was worth more than the IP alone (without kojima).  i'm like 111% sure that sony could not make a death stranding game without kojima at the helm and find any success.

afaik DS2 and physint are still exclusive to ps at launch.   in this new world where even sony's software is landing on competitor's consoles it makes sense to think sony didn't view it as worth it to keep it exclusive to ps forever.   i'd even go so far as to say getting some amount of exclusivity to physint is a big part of what sony got in return for transferring the right to death stranding to kojima.  the timing is just too close to not think one lead to the other.
