The fact we actually got a big PS first party announcement makes this the best in a long time.  Not that the bar was very high, but it was good.

seriously.   GoY alone definitely makes this one of the best SoP in a long time.

i feel like this is one of those things where a show is graded on a terrible curve:
- I want to see a big game announcement!
- ....but i won't count it if i'm not personally interested in the game.
- ....and i won't count it if there was a leak about it.

that 2nd point in particular is killing the entire industry.   obsessed with leaks yet dismissive of any announcements that have been leaked.  shows are graded too much on "surprise" and not enough on the actual content.

We didn't get a big show this year and this is it. One first party announcement IMO isn't enough. I was hoping for at least one more. Or at least a look at wolverine.

There are so many things that we should be able to see. SSM's new IP (now I'm starting to get worried about this one), Bluepoints next project, Sony Bends New IP, the next project from the devs who made retournal, forgot their name. And these are all realistic to announce and show.

I know people hated Sony showing off games years in advance, but at least it let me know what was coming in the future and their mid-term plans.

There was a lack of interesting announcements IMO. Well .. hitman VR looks cool, and really makes me want to get a VR headset just for it. But VR is so expensive

wolverine is still a long time off.  insomniac confirmed when they teased it that development had only just begun and AAA game dev takes 6+ years now.  if anything I wish it had never been teased.

GoY looked great.  I hope that 2025 means first half 2025 and that there are more games for holiday 2025.   ...but if it's not shipping in 2025 I don't want to hear about it.

as a SoP it was great.  it's unfair to call it bad just because you wish it was a showcase.   but personally I hate showcases.   if Sony has 3-4 games to show I'd prefer 3-4 SoP to 1 showcase overload.

I think Sony has finally transitioned to what Kitler has been talking about with spread out announcements. I think even last year, GoY would have been part of a Showcase. But I think we will see more first party presentation in SoPs going forward.

Sony supposedly has more in store, according to Shinobi. Either the announcements will be spread between a few different shows or they'll have a big showcase in May.

I personally wasn't expecting anything for this SoP. GoY by itself is a lot more than I was expecting.

people do not buy game consoles for game announcements.  they buy them for game releases.  putting marketing budget into games that cannot be purchase is a waste of marketing budget in both spending money that doesn't need to be spend but also diluting the impact of marketing on a game that is close to release.   it makes 0 sense to promote games that are 3+ years out.

also, we have evidence from that youtube tracker legend created for E3 showcases that when dozens of games are announced only 2-3 trailers get views.  everything else gets ignored.   spreading out announcements is going to more attention to more games.   i think only indies benefit from a large grouping of announcements as indies can easily be ignored.   sony's 1st party announcements are not going to be ignored by the media.

also, from what i read making a trailer can be a pretty impactful distraction on the game development itself.
