lol at all those scoffing at $700 than claiming they'll just build a PC instead when a high end graphics card costs more than the ps5 pro...

i'm assuming they know its not gonna be a huge seller, but more for the die hard playstation fans.

I'm still not quite sure I'd buy just yet, but I do have a huge 100" 4k projector in my office so it could be a great upgrade for me at some point.

Also was anyone impressed by the tech specs? I don't recall them saying anything specific but did the games look that much better?

I remember when this first leaked many had an incorrect understanding of the specs and thought it'd be halfway to PS6. Instead it sounds really really lame. "Get exactly what you can get today on your current PS5. It's just quality and performance modes combined into one." Cerny's messaging today was the same messaging they've been using internally.

seems in line with the ps4 pro and with any reasonable expectations a reasonable consumer could have.

ps5 pro is not intended to be a new platform.   anyone thinking developers would include even higher resolution assets than found on ps5's fidelity mode are morons.   game development is already too expensive.   the cross-gen period with ps4/Xbox One continues to this day.   no one is going to develop specifically for ps5 pro beyond enabling a "max settings" mode.

I could see differences.

Frankly there's diminishing returns after 1080p and even 30fps. Both from a performance point of view, and from what you gain.
I can (now) usually tell the difference between 30 and 60, and I prefer 60. But 30 isn't broken the same way that 20 fps is.

I struggle a lot to tell the difference between 1080p and 4k. It's better sure, but 1080p doesn't feel broken the same way that 720p feels.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of PS5 games have been running at 1080p60/1440p60/4k30 already. It's a lot of money relative to what it feels like you gain.

I think if you wanted to convince me that PS5 pro was really awesome, it'd be taking a different direction. Have the same resolution, but use the power for better physics or something; would be more meaningful.

But even that, it feels less like a PS5 hardware constraint being resolved, and more just that it's a lot of effort to put in better things. Some of the best showcases that people talk about for physics and AI are years old, or at the very least running on relatively weak hardware.

it's not fair to expect a ps5 pro to have different gameplay than what's on ps5,series X, or PC.     this was always going to be about higher resolutions and faster framerates.   better versions of the same game built for the base hardware.

Right, I'm just saying that would feel more meaningful.

There were really nice differences when they showed TLOU Part 2 and Spiderman.  It was so crips and clean with smooth motion.  Looked great in those

I'm kind of fascinated by the response to the presentation.

I feel like I watched a completely different presentation.

And I'm surprised so many people were planning on getting it before the price was announced. I think I would have been surprised if it ended up being $600 even.

Still hilarious to me how within like two sentences, Cerny is just immediately like "It's the PS5 Pro".

Probably a lot of people bought PS5s for $500 at launch and just assumed like normal tech stuff it has dropped in price and the pro would also be $500. That's how it worked with PS4 Pro.

i was hoping for a price drop announcement for the base ps5 like they did when the ps4 pro came out.   i didn't really think it would happen but i was certainly hoping.

obviously i know what happened with inflation and all but it's still pretty depressing that the ps5 is $50 more expensive than at launch....

i said years ago that the xbox one X put xbox in a bad spot.  they released quite high end hardware at the end of the gen (exasperated by being a year late) which puts a lot of pressure on the eventual next gen (series X) to be even higher end.    i think nintendo's hardware is too low end but ps5/series X is kind of too high end already.   the ps5 pro puts the ps6 in a bad spot (imo) of needing to continue this slide into the high end market that is more than what most console customers care about at prices higher than they want.

i'm goign to say it now directly,... ps5 pro put ps6 into a bad spot.   next gen was already going to be rough due to competition from PC but this puts the ps6 on track to make things worse but not leveraging the price advantage over a mid ranged PC.

I have to say though, I didn't realize how out of whack the prices are for the other region.

Japan price = $843, japan console prices are usually lower than the US
Euro price = $882
British price = $916

i think concord is a bigger fukup than ps5 pro.   a new model does not remove the old model.   if you don't like the ps5 pro nothing has changed for you.

...but yeah.  no one is openly psyched for this.
