I call BS on players choosing performance 75% of the time. It's the default so often

Vertical stand sold separately... Really sony... Really... It's 699... fudge you. I ain't buying this shame for sure.

i didn't see a disc version.   i'd prefer this to the base ps5 if i could get a disc player for the theatre room i'm likely building this year.    but $700 is a lot.   too much to want to upgrade my existing ps5 in my game room.

the presentation wasn't bad though.   keeping cerny to a tight script allowed the all important cerny cameo without the overly technical presentations i'm used to him giving.   not a bad announcement video.

...but the timing is bad.   i watch the stock market closely as well as other economic data.   consumers are pulling back on spending a lot this year especially in the luxury categories.  $700 for a luxury ps5 is not likely to sell a lot this year, imo.

The immediate reaction online is that this is way too expensive. Will that just be hot air or will this really struggle?

oh good.   just saw Pi's post and the ps blog about being able to add the disc drive.

okay.   i'm a somewhat likely buyer than.   i still haven't even started my basement remodel but hopefully by next spring i'll have my theatre room.   even at almost $800 i think this is worth it to me.    in my game room my TV is 56" i think but i'm targeting 100+ for a theatre room.    the higher resolution ought to be quite noticeable on that screen.

consumers around the world are still grappling with "inflation".    they were all for it when their wages were increasing but completely against it when it also meant higher prices.

i will not be at all surprised if even the switch 2 comes in at like $500.   without "deflation" it's just simply not reasonable to expect the same kind of prices we saw before the pandemic.   ....and you shouldn't be cheering for deflation to be honest.   china has deflation right now and its the cause of their massive unemployment numbers especially among recent graduates.   china is a dishonest reporter of numbers.   when they started to spike they just stop reporting them but estimates i've seen is unemployment > 25% for those under 30.

in 2006 a $600 console was waaay too much.   by the time the ps6 comes around $600 will probably be the cheap model.

..but to answer your question.  yes,..  this will struggle.
