i'm not a minecraft player but from a pure movie perspective it looks mid.   not terrible but not good.   i generally like jack black but i'm not feeling him casted as steve.  the mix of animation and live action isn't doing it for me either.

It's really weird artistically. The environments are very detailed unlike the game, yet they still look so fake. It looks like random people off the street walking around on a green screen.

Based off a big popular IP though so I expect it to make a lot even if it sucks.

Maybe.  Maybe not.  It can be hard as an adult to predict what kids like but its not like everything made aimed at kids is successful.  They'll make snap judgments based on the trailer and either want to see it or not.  Also kids talk more than adults so if the movie is good/bad that word of mouth will get around fast.

My kids have both begged me to take them to movies (nintendo) and begged me to not bring them (wish) before.

Sounds like The Wild Robot is an excellent movie.

Rumor that Spider-verse 3 has been delayed, but there are contradicting reports.

Yeah that'd be odd to have to throw away so much of the movie, but maybe that level of quality control is why the franchise has been so good.

As long as it's as great as the first two it can take as much time as it needs

Inside Out 2's 4k seems like it is getting pushed as more of a special edition.
No standard edition. It is only getting released as a steel book. And more pricey than most.
Usually a standard edition comes out at $30, and a steel book at $35. This one is $45.

Disney's Wish got a very limited 4K run that was Walmart exclusive I guess. Going for $50+ on ebay.

The joys of the transition to an enthusiast market.

At least, the market doesn't appear to be going anywhere.

I thought Inside Out 2 was very good.

I feel like it managed the same highs as the original (which had some great highs for me), but I also feel like it has some lower lows.

But overall I'm impressed. Feels like it's hard to capture the same magic in a sequel, yet I would say it pulled it off.

Watching Wish. about half way through.

Mostly it just feels very average. Not particularly good or bad.

But it may have the dumbest song I've ever heard in a Disney movie.

It certainly wasn't in your face bad, but it screws up so many things and it's just so weird. Amazing that Disney saw the finished film and didn't try to edit their way out of it.

Or maybe they did try. Could explain at least a few of its issues.

I bought Blade Runner on 4K.  Will be my 80th 4K movie on Plex, but I realized that's misleading because some have multiple editions (extended, standard for Lotr), and the 4k set for the Godfather included 3 different cuts of the Godfather 3.

I think it's closer to my 70th 4k movie.

Either way, it's a lot.

It's kind of a weird experience being a bit more engaged with the movie industry.

I don't particularly care about it in the way that I engage with the games industry, but it's weird to see some similarities and differences.

A lot of movie/tv show releases get announced in batches. Warner Classics has been announcing about two months ahead. And you often have no idea what is being worked on. And people are frequently convinced that WC is going to skip a month even. Yesterday's announcements were kind of disappointing. A movie already released on blu-ray is getting a remaster. Film is getting rescanned.

Movie/Tv show remasters are obviously a separate process from making the film. Whereas in gaming it's pretty much the same kind of process. It's a lot more secretive too. You'll frequently get people finding that they suddenly have an HD version streaming. And there's obviously not a guaranteed process to those getting released to people.

Crunchyroll, Criterion similarly have these monthly announcements for what is going to come out in 1-2 months.

Kino Lorber seems to be more sporadic.

It's also kind of interesting when they do announce releases. You'll get all kinds of information

That is a pretty specific interest so I get the lack of public info, but that's still pretty fun. I used to think of myself as our resident cinephile but you're definitely more into it than me.
