After refunds, Concord becomes the first game where the controller attached to it made more money than the game did.

Concord getting pulled the same day that Astro Bot is released.

And now this:

This will obviously still lose Sony millions of dollars, but at least it can work as an ad campaign for Astrobot.   ::)

Sony is lucky that the controller is just generic retro sci fi colors. Doubt they'll have to decrease their price too much to sell the rest of their stock.

What are they going to do with all the physical games though? I said it before but they might need a big pit...

At least Sony has a good* game coming out so soon after.

*Please be good.

does it?  even with 0 revenue i'll bet their are loads of games that had a higher budget.   it's up there but i don't think it confirms biggest ever.

to all those (on other sites) kidding themselves by saying it will come back as f2p,..

....it was f2p during the beta period and got a max concurrent user base of like 2-3k.    any investment into concord at this point is just going to burn more money.   it's dead.  the best sony can do is take a tax write-off.

I was more focused on failure in general, not just how much money the company lost. No real way to know the later since the games industry isn't public with that info.

Has any AAA game been taken offline faster? Even smaller "games" like The Day Before kept servers online for a month.

What do you think they'll do with the Secret level episode? Let Amazon not air it, avoid bringing this back into the spotlight? Release the rest of their finished game cinematics on youtube at the same time, see if anyone cares?

I think firewalk is dead. I expect to Sony to announce it's closure soon.

I don't know if this is as big as a flip as justice league, that game also has royalties invoked and licensing, and I wouldn't be surprised if it had a bigger budget. But at least that brought in some revenue. This is pure flop.

Kinda makes sense but the refunds are mandatory and automatic if you bought from the ps store. So even though the servers are staying up till Astrobot's release, many fans have already lost access.

So where does Sony go from here with their other live service games? Marathon, Fairgame, and Horizon are the only ones still alive right? Then they have a large amount of studios working on hybrid games with a large focus on online play.

watched the delayed input video which made me want to rewatch the fairgame$ announcement video.

it's not a gamplay trailer but the line that kind of resonates is "the game is too AAA to make the math work" or whatever he said.   fairgame$ is certainly going to be in a more appealing genre for me than concord was but that part still rings too.   too high of a budget.   too high of a PC spec (likely).   leaning too much on sony's current focus on "premium" for the f2p mtx market.   it may very well be that the only studio in sony's portfolio that could really make a successful GaaS game is asobi.   they seem to be the one studio with the right prioritization/focus on the values needed to suceed in GaaS.

god i hope fairgame$ is not the "concord 2.0" i've already seen thrown around...

Fairgame wont be Concord 2.0 but that's just because Concord did unfathomably bad. Instead it'll be like all the other failed GaaS that took at least a few months to die.

Just look at Helldivers 2. That game had an incredible launch and looked to be the next big thing but it's failing at the GaaS part and still dropping players.

Fairgame needs to somehow do even better than Helldivers 2 and I really don't see that happening.

I don't think that is the best comparison.

Helldivers 2 has lost a lot of players but it still did great.

Fairgames could be more successful on retaining players, even if it doesn't sell as well.

Helldivers 2 did great but as a traditional online game.

I was assuming Fairgame has been more expensive to develop but do we actually know how large the team is?
