1. I don't tend to like PVP.   kz was the only PVP I ever really got into.

2. it was clear from the beta concurrency numbers that the game was destined to flop.   who wants to spend $40 on a PVP game guaranteed to have no community.

Haha killzone was the only mp I ever got into too. 3, Mercenary, and Shadowfall.

I'd never play something like Concord so I just go off reading reviews. (but I can judge the art style without playing, why would people like it? It's colorful yet muted at the same time and it just does not work for me)

kitler53

yeah,.. I think concord died before the beta ever started.  people didn't dig the art and that matters.  the gameplay seemed good enough to me that with better art it could have done at least 10-100x better.

Shutting down Firewalk would be admission of failure from Sony. I just cannot see it. They're more likely to move them onto another project than shut them down.

Concord Is Estimated to Have Sold Only 25,000 Units. Here's Why Analysts Think It's Failing

QuoteOther analysts were able to share a bit of insight on the PlayStation side with me. Per Circana analyst Mat Piscatella citing Circana's Player Engagement Tracker, on Monday August 26, "Concord ranked 147th in US PS5 daily active players across all titles, with fewer than 0.2% of Monday's active PS5 players playing the game." And analyst Simon Carless, who authors the GameDiscover.co newsletter, estimated that Concord's total sales are sitting around 10,000 units on Steam, and around 15,000 on PlayStation (he responded to my email Wednesday, August 28, 2024).

Good to have a guess on ps5 numbers. The fans on the concord subreddit were hoping it was doing much better there, but I guess not.

So how long till Sony or Firewalk say something? Outside of a quick patch on the 25th, they've been radio silent. They're not even trying to engage with the few players they do have.

Also the secret level show seems to have a Concord episode in December. No way could the game truck along till then so what happens to the episode? Just act like it doesn't exist? Tie it in with a "relaunch" of the game?

I've been watching twitch streams of the game here and there. Some players that remain are just trying to get trophies so they're killing themselves over and over in game to finish matches quickly. Not ideal  :P

Matchmaking is doing surprisingly fine with these super low player counts. Sometimes it's just impossible to find a game regardless of how long people wait while other times it's still less than a minute.

An important update on Concord – PlayStation.Blog

Game is getting shut down on the 6th.

Buyers getting refunded.

dang thats wild.

Hopefully they are given some good time to go back and either enhance what was already there.  Or they take what was there and turn it into a single player story game.  Which would require more time than maybe they should deserve, but they have a decent base it seems to pivot to something like that if sony allows.

I'd probably buy it in that case.

Curious to see what they do though.
Rebrand it for free to play?
kill it + move onto something else?
shut down the studio?
Turning it into a single player game would be neat though.

Gotta be the biggest failure in modern gaming history.

BananaKing

Wow... Huge failure. I think they might just do some tweaks here and there, add some extra content here and there and release it as a F2P. If it doesn't succeeded then they will just shut it down for good.

Yeah I like the art style and a single player version is probably an instant buy from me if the story was anywhere decent.

Really impressive move by Sony. Didn't think they had it in them. The game is probably never coming back but tossing the body in a freezer gives them way more time to work with.

This move certainly confirms it. Full AAA game that gets shut down 2 weeks after launch.
