my vibes are at the industry is at a self destruction moment.

sony clearly fukt up in their persuit of GaaS.   they output is underwhelming and i think will continue to underwhelm for the rest of the generation.   they'll have a few good games but not like they should be.

ms clearly is going to keep acquiring now that ABK went through.   i still think TT gets acquired eventually along with anything else they can get their hands on until they buy up most of the industry.   ...and i can't think of anyone worse at managing studios so that's a really bleak outlook imo.

One company can't own all the studios and be successful. The more they aquire the more studio shut downs will happen

Company culture, processes, strategy can't be the same across all studios, but when you're owned by a company like MS, you gotta follow their culture and strategy. It just won't work.

What does the future look like for Sony and MS?

Sony has undergone layoffs, and Microsoft has undergone extensive layoffs.

At the same time, Sony was talking about how they were behind on development. There are a few huge publishers that are like 5x their size, like Ubisoft and Microsoft Gaming.

Is there any pressure for them to continue to slowly build up? I don't foresee Sony doing any huge acquisitions or anything, but they're still doing well. Will they continue to expand or are their studios already in a position where they don't have a lot of push to do so?

I hope if Sony keeps growing that they focus on making novel games that otherwise wouldn't have been made. One of the most disappointing things about their new studios is that they're just making the types of games that get made by everyone else.

if sony were to expand a lot than sony would also need to be more of a multi-plat developer as well.   and i dunno if that's good or bad.   i feel like xbox will be forced to conceed their hardware.   their hardware is down big this gen and i think it will completely unsustainable by next gen as all of their games go to competing platforms.

sony has been a bit more reserved but i dunno.   ...maybe they are just late.    if games go day-1 to PC by the end of this gen i don't know if i can justify buying a ps6 over a PC.   i prefer consoles but exactly what is the selling point of a ps6?   a subscription to play online?  fewer games than PC?   worser graphics and performance?

...and if games start going to nintendo's console (even late) then i'm really not buying a ps6.   i'll buy the platform that has the most access to games.  i rag on nintendo but there are at least a few titles i wish i had access to play.   i kind of feel like nintendo may end up the last surviving consoles simply by being the most resistant to change.

anyways,.. expansion in one direction is like death in another.   ps+ is pretty much sony's biggest money maker right now and they'd lose that.     also,.. there are genuinely too many games being made.   especially too many redundant games.   this announcement season really highlights that imo.   if playstation wants growth the best way to do that is to tap more market segments.   kids.  ...especially female kids.     there is literally not 1 game announced among the 50 or so announcements that would appeal to my daughter.   ...and only 2 that could appeal to my son.    the entire industry is just too much dark murder violence horror.   so much so i wouldn't even be able to show them the various press shows.   the sony SoP game my kids nightmares and i regret watching it with them.   MS's show was worse.

It really feels like most of the industry is trend chasing.

There's tons of sci-fi games in development, and we're seeing more fantasy games, and we're seeing more horror games (1100 Silent Hill games, Until Dawn coming back). Tons of Souls likes.

But it feels like most other genres are far and few between.

I wish TLOU factions released. Maybe they were trend chasing too, but it sounded like a more original Gaas.

Yeah I am sick of horror and souls like games.
