I heard good things about the first. As long as there's a lot of freedom like the first, I'm sold.

I've generally heard it recommended that people should get a dedicated 4k blu-ray player, so this is like the first time that I've seen so many people say the PS5 is a good UHD player.

I forgot that was even possible lol. No Dolby Vision is a miss though but not a huge deal

>I expect Sony to come in last next gen; change my mind

Quote from: Legend on Feb 23, 2019, 05:56 AMPlaystation will win Europe, that is a fact.

America could go to anyone however and Japan could go to Nintendo. With all the changes in leadership and recent issues with Sony, it feels like both of the other systems are going into next gen ready to win.

Sony will end PS4 with some awesome games, just like PS3, but they have only a few studios working on next gen. Meanwhile xbox has given up on this gen and Nintendo is back in fashion.

Change my mind.

So this didn't age well.   ;D

MS is like 25% of Playstation's 3rd party right now.  when/if MS pulls everything off of ps I think ps is dead.  I expect that to align with the announcement of next Gen hardware.  either that or MS goes full 3rd party.

not really sure where MS goes from here but what they are currently doing isn't working.  one way or another I expect MS to make a seismic shift in the market in a few years.

Probably, but PS5 has been doing great. (The prediction was about PS5, in case you missed it)

I think I was right about xbox, they are doing a lot better this gen than last gen.

Super didn't expect ps5 to do this well though. I still don't understand why it's selling on pace with the ps4.

I guess I'm kind of wondering what you feel Sony had last gen that they don't this gen?

Last gen felt like lightning in a bottle. Their competitor was making a fool of themselves while PS4 was doing everything right. I don't believe they had a single misstep on the console/corporate side until Jim Ryan talked about crossplay and bc in 2017.

Thinking about it more, it's maybe just the casuals vs the core players. Bloodborne sure excited more core players than Spiderman 2, but we all know which one pushed more systems.

i'm more curious as to how legend thinks he was right about xbox series X...    it's trending below xb one LTD launch aligned especially in this 3rd year where it is pretty significantly down YoY instead of having a peak year.

I mean Sony has had plenty of big successes this gen for casual/core players. God of War Ragnarok, Spider-Man 2, Horizon II, Gran Turismo 7, Spider-Man Miles Morales, have been pretty well liked by casual and core players alike I think.

ResetEra raves about Returnal, even though it didn't do well saleswise.
Sony has had some missteps this gen, but I don't think enough people care about any of them.

I think the biggest miss gamewise that Sony has had this gen has been Destruction All Stars. Most people seem to view this gen pretty comparatively to the PS4 gen.

MS has had a lot of missteps gamewise. Halo Infinite, Starfield, the most recent Forza game are all viewed pretty poorly.

MS has built a bright future with Activision and Zenimax, but I think Sony has done a great job with this gen so far. Not sure how the future will go, but gamewise, it's been pretty solid.

Are they though? Trending way down already

They've mostly bought their position, but you just agreed with me in your previous post rofl. Last gen at this point Sony really didn't care what MS did since xbox wasn't a threat, yet Sony very much views xbox as a threat today.

Xbox series outselling Xbox one in America isn't my point, but are enough NPD numbers still leaked to track everything? That'd be cool to see.

the-pi-guy

I'm fully behind the idea that MS is a big threat for Sony's future.

Not an impervious one. A lot of gamers have very specific interests. A lot of gamers aren't going to buy into the Xbox ecosystem even with Activision and Zenimax.

JRPG fans aren't likely to buy an Xbox in the near future. Fans that like God of War/Horizon/etc style games aren't likely to leave the PlayStation ecosystem.

But as I've said many times before, I don't particularly feel that Sony has been doing enough to diversify yet.

This gen though, I think it's easy to see why Sony has been doing better than Xbox.
