PlayStation 5 Achieves Milestone of 50 Million Units Sold to Consumers

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) today announced the PlayStation 5 console (PS5) has surpassed 50 million units1 sold through to consumers, three years since its Nov. 2020 launch. Thanks to the support of PlayStation fans globally, the PS5 console has experienced strong momentum this year, driven by a slate of highly popular games and SIE's continued focus on bringing innovation to the gaming experience, including PS5 game streaming for PlayStation Plus Premium members.

Player excitement for PS5 is higher than ever making this the biggest November for PlayStation consoles sold through to consumers. This momentum has been driven by recent hits such as the critically acclaimed PS5 game Marvel's Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games, as well as celebrated partner titles including Baldur's Gate 3 from Larian Studios, and Alan Wake 2 from Remedy Entertainment and Epic Games. EA SPORTS FC 24, the newest entry from the perennial sports favorite, and the PlayStation debut of Roblox, which appeals to gamers of all ages, have also been hugely popular with the community.

not sure where it will end but with ps4 in the ballpark of just short of 120M ps5 looks to be pretty much on track to match that.

not sure we'll ever see the ps2 dethroned.

How fast is this compared to other systems?

It's great how great it's doing, but it's funny how checked out I am of Sony this gen. I've played my ps5 so little compared to my ps4 and ps3 at the same point. Prob just the pandemic delaying everything and me getting older.

honestly,.. you seem pretty checked out on video game for the most part.   like i get you are a developer and all but when you post here you always frame things has how playing it was only as a lesson for how to improve your skills a developer (other than starfield).   

nothing wrong with that.   just that with how small the community is here i feel like there is a very direct relationship between how little of this forum is about video games these days and how you approach gaming these days.   conversation is dominated by movies, space, and musk these days.


my own habits changed massively this year as well.  ps+ extra changed how i approach games massively.   ...not necessarily for the better.

onestly,.. you seem pretty checked out on video game for the most part.   like i get you are a developer and all but when you post here you always frame things has how playing it was only as a lesson for how to improve your skills a developer (other than starfield).  

I've been that way since day one, although it's not really about improving my skills as a developer. It's more that I have almost zero interest in bloat/repetition in games so I tend to focus on ones that pack more ideas per minute. A few times a year I make exceptions and play big AAA games like Starfield.

I play so many games this gen compared to previous gens thanks to gamepass. I think maybe the real issue for me and discussion on this forum is that I play tons of games on xbox nowadays yet outside of big ones like starfield, it's kinda pointless to talk about them.

It's not that bad is it? I get all my gaming news from here. For a small community, all the major news is talked about with generally good quality discussions. If I see gaming news first elsewhere while on the internet, I come straight here to read what you guys say.
