I'm glad I haven't dealt with that yet. MS trying to always get me to use edge and the hello options is annoying enough.

"Non-avian dinosaur"

It's so stupid. Just have scientists come up with a new technical term for the group that includes dinosaurs and birds and only use dinosaur to refer to, you know, dinosaurs.

I guess this is an issue of nuance.

But there are people that conflate climate change as a byproduct of capitalism.

There's definitely a situational relationship. Energy companies make money, etc.

But it bugs me a bit. It's not logically provable, you can have climate change without capitalism and vice versa.

The other issue is that I think that rhetoric can be dangerous even. Helps conflate climate change as a political issue, and I think that makes it harder to fight against.

kitler53

if anything climate change is a by product of science.   if we didn't go and invent the internal combustion engine, lights, computers, ect we wouldn't have this problem.

capitalism is not applicable.

It is pretty dangerous yeah. I just pulled up a random poll and 74% of republicans think climate change is harming our national parks. If climate change wasn't used (by pretty much everyone) to push unrelated issues or agendas, we'd be in such a better spot.

Obviously people tell fake stories on the internet.

But it's always really weird when people take normal parts of the story as proof it didn't happen.

I'm looking at a reddit post about a story that starts off with standing in line at a bank, and that's one part that people are using as evidence that it's fake.

>A line at a bank? Who goes to the bank anymore... first tip off she's full of crud

Like the follow up comments make it pretty clear that this person is serious.

The whole rest of the story has plenty of weird issues, arguing that people don't go to the bank is just incredibly weird.

Good reminder that reddit is a bunch of kids.

I go inside a bank pretty much every month and about half the time I have to wait in line. Also that reminds me that I need to start going in on Saturdays. Haven't had bank doughnuts in far too long.

People here may disagree with me on this, but sometimes I feel like people have an unrealistically high expectation of being left alone.

Like I can understand complaints about people playing videos at overly high volumes or parents who do nothing about their kids getting into stuff.

But I think some people have these overly rosy expectations that they should never ever have to be near a child or something like that. Some people almost seem to have this belief that they should never have to hear a noise from other people unless it's warranted somehow.

I like people having fun in public. Kinda grinds my gears though when young kids are at restaurants and they play on a phone with the volume turned up.

I agree. Specially when it comes to parents with babies, you can't control when a baby cries.

kitler53

I'm with you Pi.

my parents are like that.  it's wrapped up in their feelings of being better than other people.  they view their right to freedom to superceded other people's rights.  they should always get what they want even if those around them need to be suppressed.

when in reality being in public brings tons of conflicts that decent people know how to navigate gracefully.

it's not reasonable to expect a baby not to cry.  it is reasonable to expect a crying baby to be removed from certain situations like a wedding.  other situations (like being on an airplane) there is no reasonable mitigation and you just need to deal.

Dumb appliance designs.

Obviously pretty much every dryer has a lint filter that is easily removable.

Lint sometimes gets underneath the filter. And it can be absurdly difficult to remove that fire hazard. For some reason you have to disassemble a large chunk of the dryer in order to get more access to the thing that is right in the front.
