For some reason I can't find where I was talking about expensive movies.

But I have a new one.

I want to eat your pancreas

Heard really good things about it. For some reason it doesn't seem to be available anywhere.

For some reason it's an exclusive that was $40, I got it for $32.

So that's one of the most expensive movies I ever bought. Getting it tomorrow.

Always a little fun to be able to stream a movie available nowhere else.

So far what I've seen:
UHD bit rate: 44 - 92 Mbps
Blu-ray bit rate: 18 - 45 Mbps
DVD bit rate: 0.5 Mbps - 9Mbps
iTunes HD bit rate ~5 Mbps

I'm a little baffled by having a blu-ray movie that has a higher bit rate than a UHD one, and I'm a little baffled by how low res that one DVD is.  Unless I tried re-encoding it for some reason. It looks so bad.

Does it look so bad even when played directly from a dvd player? That's crazy bad.

Also I never before thought about how freaking low disc bandwith is compared to a raw stream. HDMI is 18 gigabits per second and up.

It doesn't.

I'm not sure what happened.

Either something weird happened when I ripped the movie, or I butchered the movie to save space for some bizarre reason.

The latter makes absolutely no sense to me. Maybe I made terrible decisions when I was two years younger. Which frankly I made a few on account of having limited space.

The former seems very unlikely, but not impossible. Something weird happened when I ripped The Notebook. It only copied like the first hour, and it was in weird condition. But I've probably ripped like 600 discs and that's the only time I've noticed something like that.

The more realistic bottom for DVD seems to be 3 Mbps.

I have 9 movies below that mark though. I could believe I butchered a couple of movies intentionally that I didn't like as much. But the other 7 don't make any sense to me.

Going to try re-ripping those and see if they come out better.

I feel like Barbie's DVD release must not have done as well. Or it's just an early sale for some reason.

DVD is currently $10 at Amazon and the blu-ray is $13.

My mom bought the bluray a week ago for a lot more than $13 lol.

Physical movies need to be cheaper and/or streaming needs to be more expensive. Crazy that you can save money by buying a month of a streaming service to watch a movie vs buying the disc.

Five nights at freddy's is doing amazing. 3rd biggest horror opening weekend ever, only behind It.

This is all with the movie also being "free" on peacock. Would have otherwise broke more records.

Was hoping to get the UHD, but decided it wasn't worth the wait/higher charge.

Yeah, but I think that's slowly changing. At least on Netflix's side. Already $23 for the highest tier.

Only got to watch the first 40 minutes I think of Barbie.

I'm having a weird time.

I can honestly say that I had absolutely no clue what I was getting into. And I can't remember the last time I watched a movie with literally no expectations. I don't think I've ever seen a trailer.

All I knew was that it came out the same day as Oppenheimer and a lot of people loved it and some people were bothered by it.

It feels well made and yet a little overly cheesy.

It's a funny and creative movie but if you're not liking the first 40 minutes I doubt you'll like the rest.

I was liking it.

For me it just has a lot of highs and some lows.

It had some amazing scenes. I appreciate the barbie land goofiness, but it has unexplained goofiness.

I really loved the ending scene.

I haven't talked to that many people about it, but you're the first person I know who wasn't bored during that scene.

I was just there for the goofiness.

People are weird.

And I might be even weirder than most.

I kind of like the mix of goofiness and serious moments.

Didn't realize that WB and Disney were founded in the same year.
