It's horrible how accepted antisemitism is in the west.

Yesterday hundreds of jewish people died, seemingly the most in a single day since WW2, and you can find so many people celebrating the violence. There is even a rally today in NYC in support of it.

"Left wingers" have generally been opposed to Israel and for good reason:

Several members of the Israel government have openly viewed Palestine as sub-human beasts who should be genocided.
And I think generally leftists think that Palestine/Israel should be allowed to co-exist.

Anti-Israel government views can unfortunately become antisemitic views/ or are fueled by antisemitic views. We see that a lot with China too.

Even if one blames Israel, none of this should be celebrated.

But it's okay for Palestinians to be murdered. Yeah cool.

Don't get your news from resetera. Hamas is parading around the bodies of dead civilians and proudly posting videos online. I fear for the future of Palestinian citizens and muslims in general, but today Hamas is a clear evil and any support or whataboutism is absolutely not ok.

The Era thread isn't about that. The post I shared was actually thread banned.

I'm just saying that I think nuance is needed here.

Need to be careful about not conflating Jews with the Israeli government, as well as not conflating Hamas with all Palestinians.

I'm tired, Robbie. Terrible stuff and I really feel and gear for all the innocent people killed and hurt. But let's not pretend this hasn't been brewing for a long time. Hamas are scum and the Israeli government are scum for their treatment of the Palestine people.

When animals are cornered and feel threatened, they will attack. I believe many Palestinians have felt that way for a long time and are therefore vulnerable to joining extremist groups such as Hamas.

Going to a music festival and murdering 260 people is not attacking when feeling threatened.

Horizon

Isreal are in the wrong and so is Hamas.

War only results in tragedy and dealth. I can only hope for immediate ceasefire but I doubt that's going to happen.

Obviously not directly . Israel has been destroying Palestinians for years, including innocent ones. You don't think they might hold a grudge?

It does not justify what Hamas did but it might explain a bit why

Gazans scramble for safety as Israeli airstrikes pound sealed-off territory to punish Hamas - The Washington Post

QuoteIsrael has stopped entry of food, fuel and medicines into Gaza, and the sole remaining access from Egypt shut down Tuesday after airstrikes hit near the border crossing.

QuoteIn hopes of blunting the bombardment in Gaza, Hamas has threatened to kill one Israeli civilian captive any time Israel targets civilians in their homes in Gaza "without prior warning." Israel's foreign minister, Eli Cohen, warned in response that "this war crime" would not be forgiven.

The militants' attack stunned Israel with a death toll unseen since the 1973 war with Egypt and Syria — and those deaths happened over a longer period of time. It brought horrific scenes of Hamas militants gunning down civilians in their cars on the road, in streets of towns, and at a music festival attended by thousands in the desert near Gaza, while dragging men, women and children into captivity.

QuoteThe bodies of roughly 1,500 Hamas militants were found on Israeli territory, the military said. It wasn't immediately clear whether those numbers overlapped with deaths previously reported by Palestinian authorities.

In Gaza, more than 200,000 people have fled their homes, the U.N. said, the most since a 2014 air and ground offensive by Israel uprooted about 400,000. The vast majority are sheltering in schools run by the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees. Damage to three water and sanitation sites have cut off services to 400,000 people, the U.N. said.

On Monday, Israel announced a "complete siege" on the territory, halting deliveries of food, fuel, water, medicines, electricity and other supplies. That leaves the only access in and out through the Rafah crossing with Egypt.

Dr. Pezus

Isn't blocking necessities a war crime in itself?

I appreciate the more nuanced take from the president.

His whole speech is good. Also says at least 14 Americans were killed with more held as hostages.
