I always love the idea of RPGs and get sucked in but I never follow through. It's like I get to a point of realisation that i have to pump 100s of hours into it and i don't feel it's worth it for me.
And I feel like I'm the opposite.

I'd rather put 100 hours into a great game, than put 10 hours into 10 good games.

Even with shorter games, I will just replay them a lot. Uncharted 2, I've played all the way through ~15 times. It's like a 12 hour game, and I've probably put 300 hours into it (including multiplayer before someone maths me.)

Absolutely and I get it. Building up you character and exploring huge worlds is appealing to me until I do it, but I get why people love it. Maybe I'm weird because I'd happily spend hours solving one puzzle on Talos or tens of hours finding all the hidden treasures on Uncharted but I guess RPGs aren't for me. And I've tried a varied amount of RPG's - Legend of Dragoon, FFVII, Horizon, GoW, Disco Elysium, Salt 2, some old school Zelda like clone on Steam, Skyrim- and I never finish them. I couldn't even finish MGSV and I love that series. I also think I've gotten more impatient which age which doesn't help

I would say I'm a gamer but not compared to you guys.

Quote from: SWORDF1SH on Sep 11, 2023, 02:41 PMProbably not taken an interest because I've always been put off by Sokoban style games. I judge games way to often on looks and sokoban games never really caught my attention. Baba is You has just opened up a whole lot of games on my radar.

Starfield looks great and is a great game but this was the reason I wasn't sure if to Game Pass it or buy it. Game Pass was the right choice.
i'm the same.   i started the witcher 3 and said to myself, "this is kind of fun!   ...but it seems like it will take 12+ months to beat.   next game!!".

10-20 is the sweet spot for me because i don't want to play just 1 game a year.   i want to try a bunch of games in a bunch of genres.   the only games i can drop 100s of hours into is things like rocket league and multiversus where it's just a series of 5 minute commitments.    ...or top teir puzzle games like talos principle or fez.

Nah, I don't even game that much.

I only play like an hour, maybe 2 a day.

I spent like 12 months mostly just playing through Dark Souls 1-3, Demon's Souls, Elden Ring. Putting like 100 hours into each one.

And I would do it again frankly....

I think my problem with most large games is that you're just doing the same thing over and over. After a few hours, do they really have that much left to say on the gameplay side?

I loved MGSV, Horizon, AC Odyssey, all the Mass Effects, etc. but I really need to be in the correct state of mind for them.

You sound like more of a gamer than me! I go months without playing a single video game. Steam year in review

kitler53

geez guys.   i need to do a count but i think i'm on track to get close to that "52 video games in 52 weeks" competition over on era.

so i'm coming back to this post because i thought of a new and very important question.

will you keep subbing to gamepass or are you going to cancel it now that you decided not to keep playing starfield?

I will give it a shot now I have the month but I don't think I will continue after the month. I don't play much and I'm far too picky.

pretty much what i figured and a big part of why i think gamepass is unsustainable.   far to easy to play MS's biggest games for what,.. $15?   i mean, MS is huge enough to not go belly up over this but also there is sooo much revenue lost in this model.

The Witcher 3 is actually one of the few RPGs I've finished  8)

A lot of people will keep their subs I feel. With every big game, the base sub count will rise. I think Game Pass will be successful and a missed opportunity for Sony as they were the first to do game subscription. I just hope that it doesn't dilute the quality of games in the future.

the data we have doesn't support that.  both Xbox and PlayStation subs have been stagnant for a long time now.

Yeah I only sub for a month here and there unless there's a good sale.

That's worrying for MS then. I wonder what the numbers will be after the dust settles from Starfield . Starfield is probably the biggest console exclusive on Game Pass and will appeal to millions of gamers outside of Xbox ecosystem.

The worrying thing for MS is that gamers expect all first party games to be on Games Pass. Even CoD when they aquire ABK. Will Game Pass produce more money than if the MS Studios weren't under Game Pass?

I am also very curious about the numbers post starfield too.

this is the biggest "event" since gamepass was introduced.  if this can't drive subs then nothing can.  I really hope we get new numbers but knowing MS we probably won't get them.

and yeah, exactly.   putting CoD on gamepass would drastically reduce revenue imo.   I have ps+ extra and my spend is down massively for what I typically spend in a year.
