I love ethernet switches. Can't imagine going back to wifi.

The worst thing about setting up the new wireless routers, is being reminded that I only have 10 Mbps upload, but at least I have 300 Mbps download!  (Also for some reason my PC is getting closer to 350.)

That's one thing I love about fiber. Upload is almost the same as download.

Kind of wild to be streaming 90 Mbps.  :o

Starting a project of collecting all the family photos. From Facebook, Google Photos, etc.

There's currently a gap I think because one of my phones might not have been set up for syncing to Google photos. That phone has a completely busted screen. Tempted to see if I can swap screens with another phone. (unfortunately I have a few semi-broken phones...)

Also going to see if I can take all the pictures from mom and dad and scan them in.

I've been thinking a lot about going back to university for a master's degree.

I have a pretty good idea of what I want to get. CS degree in either AI or graphics. (Also hoping to take some Japanese classes, either part of a program or not.)

But I have no idea where I want to go. I think the closest graduate school is like 2 hours away. And it's a great college, but that's quite a distance for a routine thing with life going on.

Finding a good online program is probably easier for my life right now. But I'm not sure where.

Very cool.  I've also been thinking about getting a master's to be able to teach environment art at the college I went to.  They desperately need someone who really knows unreal engine and their current is good, but I've always felt his skills were limited.  No one comes out of that school as an amazing artist, it happens very rarely.  I'd like to change that.

You're probably better off doing an online program. I'd look at UK universities as well, their Masters degree are generally 1 year, compared to 2 years in the US. And they are cheaper. I know the issue is the time zone, but some universities might have work around for that and flexible hours

The question is though, would a Masters degree help your career?

kitler53

i have 2 masters.  it has done nothing for my career.  only get one if it is specifically needed for something you specifically want to do.

I do wish you didn't have to have a full masters to teach at a university.  Even if it was like bachelors+some sort of licensing.  Kinda like how you can just get a license to sell real estate without going to school.  But maybe something a little harder so not every average Legend can do it.

the-pi-guy

My reasons are pretty dumb.

I don't need a masters for my career or anything like that.

I think I would benefit career-wise from taking a few specific classes, but I don't think a masters would help my career.

But I like taking classes. And it would make me feel good to be working towards something. And financially we are doing very well. I have a good job. Finances aren't a huge issue.

Then I wouldn't take one tbh unless you get some sort of scholarship.

Is your work remote?

My work is partially remote, but largely flexible.

I mean, I thought if you want it for the experience, you could go to the UK. What a lot of people do is go for the UK for 2 semesters (which is about a total of 6 months)  because the third and final one is your thesis, and you can do that back home in the US. Its just an idea.

the-pi-guy

I'm not really in a position to go to the UK.

Have family, my wife has her own job, two years into paying for a house.   :P
