I finished it. It was great. And what they can hopefully do with the graphics and gameplay later in the ps5 cycle is gonna be bonkers. It also sets up Horizon 3 more.

I should be clear, I'm not talking about the DLC. :-X
Just the main game.

Good!

I hope horizon 3 is another big improvement. Maybe it could be a full rpg this time!

I wonder if horizon 3 will end up coming sooner than Horizon 2 did.

Seems like there are plans in place.

Finished the game officially.

Think I will wait on the DLC though.

Yeah they might be able to push some old god of war esque boss battles in Horizon 3.

So without spoilers, whats the drama about the dlc going on?

Hard to talk about it without spoiling anything whatsoever.
But the best I can do:
Spoiler for Hidden:

anti-social justice warriors.

those who oppose freedom of cultural diversity.

basically assholes that want to tell you you can only live your life according to their values and throw a tantrum when other people are shown to exist.

if you need to know more you can go to my other thread:
Can we just state the obvious? Conservatives are horrible human beings committed to inflicting suffering and misery on humanity?

Overall thoughts on the game. I prefer God of War :-*

But anyway:

Spoiler for Hidden:
Lots of good improvements, a couple of step backs.

Visually, I think it has to be the most incredible game I've seen by a bit of a margin. Just ridiculously detailed world. Some things kind of stand out though in a bad way. Some of the effects with like acid look kind of bad in the world. It's also a little comical seeing it show up in cutscenes.
Animation is a huge step upwards.

Gameplay: lots of good improvements.
It felt kind of strange to me in the first game where you have a button dedicated to healing with plants, and yet you have to take a lot of effort to keep that stocked. There are some large sections of the game where you don't get plants very often. You pretty much have to step away from the main story in order to restock. The second game does a better job of making that the primary way to heal in the way that mechanically it is set up as.

I think I have slightly mixed feelings on the focus for getting hints. It's kind of cool that you can basically have an immersive mode without the game pointing out everything, and it makes sense in the game to have the focus gives you hints. But the visual design is probably too busy.

One thing that was great is having way more options on climbing. Even if the game wants you to take one specific path, there are usually dozens of ledges that you can take any one of them instead of just 1 ledge you have to find.

One step back for me, is that I don't love the combat. It surely makes sense for the machines to basically be tanks and whatnot.
But on the whole it's not the most fun experience for me. So many of the enemies just seem to be bullet sponges that are usually faster, bigger and stronger than you in a way that makes approaching them just less fun.
I think it would be more fun to have more variety. Have bigger enemies that are slower and easy to run away from. Have smaller enemies that are easy to take out in one good hit. But it felt like even for the human enemies this became less of a thing. They seem to be more commonly wearing helmets or some kind of masks that protected them.

This one perhaps silly thing is a major thing holding back both of the games for me.

Story: some things bugged me, some things were interesting.

Some of the early dialogue writing was pretty bad. There's just a lot of stuff where they were trying to catch you up, and it could have done more naturally. There's quite a bit of very awkward dialogue to remind the player about stuff from the previous game.

The Zeniths feel like they should have been a bigger plot point. By the end of it, they just feel like random bad guys and not one of the big enemies of the game. The leader of the group gets like 30 seconds of screen time I think. Overall not too bothered, but it could have been more meaningful.

I was very surprised how much sci-fi this leaned into.
The first game felt like sci-fi was more just to create the setting. Whereas here it's a pretty big part of the story that there are still people with advanced technology.

Overall I think I give it like a 8.5/10; maybe a 9.
I still can't believe ragnarok did that much. Its insane. Will it reach 30 million?

Also horizon FW is 8.4 after one year. So its selling faster than HZD. There is also a TV series coming and a rumored remaster for the first game.

The first game might end up at 30 million. Its at roughly 24 million now.
