Box office mojo has it at 1.397billion. That's including an 18 million Monday estimate

Passing top gun midweek or by weekend to be top grossing moving of 2022 in 3 weeks

My brother hadn't seen it so I watched it again, this time in IMAX. I think dolby was slightly better image quality, although I didn't have any issues with framerate/motion blur in Imax.

Combined with a rewatch of the first last night, I've changed my mind and now like #2 more. It does so many smart things that I didn't fully appreciate on my first viewing.

Avatar 2 is growing not shrinking. Made 5% more this weekend vs last. Has never happened to a movie so large before.

its definitely got really good buzz.  The vast majority are enjoying it.  It does also help theres not much else noteworthy to watch, but still crazy 2 billion seems to be locked now. Crazy

The deep freeze also really impacted last week, but it's still fun to see.

Worldwide I'm getting really hopeful that it'll beat Titanic. With Avatar 2, Top Gun 2, and Spiderman No Way Home, I think it's safe to say the pandemic has shifted audiences but mega blockbusters are fully viable again.

thats true, but i'm still really surprised christmas weekend was as high as it was with that.

Yeah i expect it to get pretty close.  Unless it just drops like a rock, but i don't see that happening.

Officially over 1.4 billion on BOM.  They adjusted the Monday estimate up roughly 1 million

nnodley

Monday estimate was turned official at 21 million.  So added 2 million more to monday.  1.443 billion now.  Ive never been this excited about box office before, but i just want him to be able to do all the sequels and hopefully get more unique stories.

I hope avatar's box office is like Tesla's stock,.. falling.  crashing.

...feels good to neg both at the same time.

Yeah I want to see his 5 movie vision come to fruition as well.
Im not a big avatar buff, in fact I only watched the first movie just one time, and after seeing the second I feel like ill probably never watch it again. But they are fun movies, and id love to see his ending for the saga and what he will do

A 5 movie sci fi saga sounds super interesting. But thats the point though, I want it to conclude and finish at 5

nnodley

Yeah personally i feel it has some of the best sci-fi alien world building there is and not seeing his complete vision would be very uninteresting.

You'll have to settle for just one of those.

Early Tuesday numbers show that Avatar 2 has legs past the holiday. It has already been a success, but now it has a shot at doing a victory lap. Predictions from experts are being blown out of the water.

I was like this for Avatar 1. I don't remember the forum, but it was a blast as every number came in. I'd use my graphing calculator to make my own predictions.

So based on projections, where do we think it will end?

1.8 billion? 2? 2.4?

$2.1 billion is my prediction, but I'm making a lowball prediction so I can be excited when it does better.

$2.5+ billion is pretty unlikely yet still possible. That'd be my optimistic prediction.

nnodley

I'm thinking it will maybe just scratch Titanic's number so around 2.2 billion
