Getting down to the end.

Got 12 trophies today. They really start raining when you collect everything.

Just have a few more fights left, but they are tough.

What difficulty are you playing on?

Give me balance/middle difficulty.

That's what I played on too. Brother played on easy.

1 more fight for the plat.

Spoiler for Hidden:
The fight against the last berserker actually made me appreciate the spear a lot more.

Between:
1.) Staggering him when throwing the spear
2.) Staggering him again when exploding
3.) The spear being the best at actually disabling several of his attacks.

I also feel like it fixed my timing. A lot of his attacks will target you and swerve to hit you when you dodge. Trying to get an extra throw in, meant I wasn't dodging too early like I was doing.

It was almost easy mode.

All done with the berserkers though. Have one other fight.

Might have to enable boss checkpoints for the last fight.

(assuming that setting works for that)

I have a lot of thoughts on Ragnarok.

There's a lot that I love.
There's a lot where I can see pros and cons for, where I'm not really sure how much I like/dislike.
There's not a lot where I thought "this is terrible", but there are a few things I found myself disliking.

I think I might come back every once in a while to talk about some of the things.

Spoiler for scale:
One thing that a lot of people didn't like about 2018, is that there aren't any big epic battles.
I would largely disagree with their criticism on that though. The dragon for example is big. Not as big as Chronos in GOW 3 or anything like that, but still pretty respectable I think in the space of God of War.

Here though, I can't think of any actual big bosses that we fight against.

Spoiler for bosses:
Ragnarok has more bosses I think, or at the very least more variety.
The fights with Thor are fine I think.

But there are a few things that are really special about the Baldur fights (especially the first one) in 2018, and Ragnarok doesn't have anything quite like that. Legend talked about this in a previous post.

It's really fun watching Kratos and Baldur keep coming back, and coming back bigger. Whereas this doesn't really happen in Ragnarok. The fights in Ragnarok are just fights I think.

I feel like 2018 has more narrative in the boss fights if that makes sense. Lots of back and forth between Baldur and Kratos, and other characters towards the end. Whereas I think, most of the time it feels more separate in Ragnarok. I might be mistaken, but I think dialogue tends to happen before and after the boss fights, and not as much during.
I might be mistaken on that.
Spoiler for climbing:
I've been wanting to talk about climbing for a while.

Climbing isn't great in either 2018 or Ragnarok. It's not dynamic. It's very strictly going through a path.

Compare it to Uncharted, where it's possible to fail. It's possible to be goofy and just jump around a little more.

We don't have that level of freedom in either God of Wars.[/size]
the-pi-guy

Spoiler for level design:
A lot of the level design is very inconsistent.
Some of it is very linear, there is only one path for quite a while. Then you have several of these almost mini open world sections that tie them together.

That kind of design is fine. What bugged me towards the end, was there were areas where there *seem* to be several linear sections that don't have any connections, except on the map they're right next to each other. There were a couple of times where the map indicator didn't know how to direct me to an area that on the map was directly adjacent to where I was.

(I'm saying seem because there were a couple of instances where I missed a path.)
It didn't quite reach the point of frustration for me, but it could be better. Having the ability to fast travel would largely fix that issue for me.

On the other end of it, there's a large section in Vanaheim that is one of the best levels I've ever seen. So many paths and ways to get around. It is amazingly impressive.

Xev said he found an awesome level, with no spoilers.

Just getting into it, I knew immediately it was the level he vaguely mentioned. Absolutely amazing stuff. If the whole game was like that, I would absolutely be arguing this game was easily better than Elden Ring.
Spoiler for scale:
First game had better scale imo. Dragon and giant fight at the end were cool. Ragnarok jumped from arena to arena more, but the dog was the only big fight.

I don't really understand it. Ragnarok did a great job with variety but went the opposite direction with scale. I wonder if it was a PS4 limitation. I'm also pretty sure the new engine cannot handle moving ground. The whale thing for example is just a visual trick where parts are moving in the distance but once you reach a chunk it becomes static.
Spoiler for bosses:
Your dialogue observation matches my recollection too. Except weird "fight" in the house with the large woman, I don't really remember custom dialogue within fights. It'd only happen during quicktime/cutscene moments.
Spoiler for climbing:
I don't mind the climbing, but this game had a lot more of it. Heck there was the entire section with climbing the wall! It's not fun and the game should of minimized its use.
Spoiler for level design:
Which awesome level are you talking about? I've been to that section of vanaheim.
