What would make you more interested in Sony's Live Service push?

I kind of feel like I made this thread before, but I can't find it so...

A lot of live service games are very popular, Destiny, Fortnite, PUBG, Warframe, Warzone. So it's not terribly surprising that Sony is investing more themselves.

I know live service isn't very popular with people here. It's certainly not something that I like. But to play devil's advocate a little bit here, is there anything that Sony could do to make you feel more positive about the push?

What kind of model would make you feel better about the push?
What kinds of games would make you a little more interested?

I know it's antithetical to what live service titles are, but I wish that these games had more single player modes.
There are some games like Gran Turismo that I feel like they should have offline/single player modes. Especially for these games that are not free to play.

Personally I am extremely interested in it. For someone who really enjoyed their multiplayer games during the PS3 era, I am really glad they are making a new push for multiplayer games now.

I do hope they don't focus too much on battle royal though. I dont give a shame about battle royal and if everything is battle royal then im shame out of luck

I do hope they make a large scale FPS game. I think there is a huge market for it. A battlefield × killzone game would be awesome. Roughly 30 × 30, destructible environment, mechs, jet packs, tanks, large maps. Of course this is only gonna happen in my dreams

Legend

The only live service game I've loved was Elite Dangerous. Always played it solo to avoid pvp, but it was great feeling like I was just one small part in a much bigger galaxy.

I could be interested if Sony's live service push had a game or two that focused on co-op, larger scale conflict, and offered an experience not possible in static games. However I have zero interest in "party" games like Fortnite and Rocket League where there's no meaningful progression.

TLDR: God Of War 76

are we anti-live service games?

WoW dominated my life for like 3 years.   i played destiny 1 and then 2 years of destiny 2 (1 year on, 1 year off, 1 year on, off since then).  i've been playing rocket league for like 7 years now.   i'm currently obsessed with multiversus.

i think you can kind of see it in which titles i choose to play but,...  i'm just really, really, really, not into fps pvp.  i love co-op or team play but "team death match" or similar is the most unfun thing in the world for me.  i'm not good enough at games and all i do is watch respawn timers.  it's boring and frustrating as fudge.

destiny was a good fit with me.  i didn't do much pvp but when i did it was team based.  mostly though i did strikes and raids and daily/weekly missions.   i liked that struture for the most part.  my only critique is that the seasons had too much of a hard reset to make the progression feel satisfying.  as soon as i hit max the season was over and suddenly everything i worked for was worthless.

i'd love for a WoW like game to come to consoles.

i think in theory i like geshin impact.  i tried it for like 1 day and felt lost and the combat was a bit too shallow so i dropped it.  but it seemed like a game i should like.  i probably just didn't give it a fair shake.

i'd like to see a smash clone, a mario kart clone with sony IP.  PSASBR wasn't great but it could have been.

i'd like to see DDR and rock band make a come back.  or something completely different but equally interesting.

i guess i just want to see a variety of games and not just fps pvp.  but i'll sum it up by restating that WoW completely dominated my life for years.  it just had everything.  you could quest by yourself.  you could take on dungeons in small groups.  you could take on raids with a big group.  you could pvp in the open world.  you could pvp in the battlegrounds.  the gameplay was deep.  the various classes played massively different and each felt like it had a purpose.   between new characters, new gear, new skills, new areas you always felt like there was something to strive for.  the talent trees were interesting and your choices could massively change the way you play.  there was lots of room to have flashy cosmetics both just for fun (pets) and also to show off how good you were at the game (gear).

lastly, i don't really love the "battlepass" monetization.  i don't have any particular suggestions but the grind for meaningless cosmetics thing is really wearing out its welcome with me.  that's not motivation enough for me to keep playing a live service game.

Well, even if we're not anti-live service, I don't think most of us are excited about it.
I'm somewhat anti-live service. At least for multiplayer games.

Something like Genshin, I would probably be all over. Although I haven't tried Genshin yet, that does seem like a live service title that is up my alley.

At the very least it doesn't seem like Sony is going after that much fps pvp.

One or maybe two of them sounded like they were going for more of a fantasy type title. Maybe Legend will get his GoW 76 :o

Firesprite cancelled their action shooter.

Helldivers 2 seems to be a third person shooter with a coop focus?

Insomniac Games - still have no idea what this is supposed to be. Some were speculating an X-Men live service title.

Twisted Metal - vehicular combat live service game.

Horizon multiplayer: I have to imagine this will be hunters fighting robots. More co-op PvE, but they could throw in a PvP tribe element too.

TLOU factions

London Studio - this one seems to be a magic based fantasy game.

Haven - don't think I've seen what this is.

Deviation Games - also not sure what this is. A lot of Call of Duty people here, but they keep talking about doing different things.

Bungie - seems to have a couple things going.

Firewalk - I thought there was an indication this was a PvP shooter, but I might be wrong.

I think they have a lot of variety going on.

Might be something that snags me before the end of the generation.

Some who was not me speculated horizon would be a perfect fit for a monster hunter style game.   Makes too much sense to not be true.
