my coop buddy just upgraded to premium.

not sure how but he was able to upgrade to premium for only $150 when he has 5 years left on his ps+.     it would cost me $92 for a meager 1.5 years.   does sony have a bug in their system because he should have been charged around $300.

I think there is a cap on the upgrade price.

There was some backlash when people saw you had to pay to upgrade the entire x years you had subscribed.

But when it rolled out in the US, I saw people posting that there was a cap on the pricing. Which I'm not sure if that was intentional.

so if i quickly extend my ps+ sub i could get a cheaper upgrade price?

the upgrade feels a lot more "worth it" at half the price...

Are you still on the base tier?

The premium cap was $150, the extra cap was $100, regardless of how long you have.

I'm a little hesitant to suggest it, because they might change how it works. But people are still reporting that there is a cap in place.

yep.   i wanted to wait at least until ~black friday to make any decision.  i want to see how many games get added and more importantly how many games leave.   gamepass games leave quickly and it takes me months to finish a big AAA game typically.   i have no use for a game services that pulls the games i'm pulling mid play though.

maybe if i decide i'm going to upgrade i'll just buy a lot of years or service up front.   i'll still be on playstation in 5 years i'm certain of it so it's not much of a "risk" to pre-purchase the service if i'm confident in upgrading.  getting half off the upgrade makes it A LOT easier to rationalize.

Not sure how I feel about returnal. This design is getting on my fudgy nerves. You can't get back to a boss without fighting like 50 enemies again. At least in something like the Souls games you can pretty much bypass them all to rush back to a boss but there is multiple areas that force you to fight with an area lockdown

Yep this is fudgy annoying. I've died 10 times just trying to get back to the boss fight. I'm straight over this right now

Just got to the door to the boss and area goes in lockdown and have to fight like a mini boss. So stupid and then die and go right back to the start of the loop

But I'm also really intrigued by the story it's displaying but the procedural nature of the rooms and enemies is so off putting

And there is no way to heal in the boss fight. What in the actual fudge. You have to reduce its health 3 times to finish it. Duuuuumb as shame.  This is terribly unfun

Reminds me of Hades. Rougelites are not at all my thing but it was still good enough to pull me to the end.

Yeah I mostly despise these types of games. But since I got it by upgrading my ps plus I figured I'd try it. It's getting way too repetitive now. First couple hours were great but now I'm likely not gonna play anymore.

PlayStation Extra looks pretty solid.
PlayStation Premium doesn't really feel worth it.

hot take.    ps+ extra looks like the far better value than ps+ premium.  at nearly half the price to gamepass ultimate ps+ extra is looking to have a reasonable level of parity to gamepass.   but dear god is extra $20 for premium looking lackluster.

i will continue to monitor the situation until november before making any decisions.
