Quote from: Legend on Jun 30, 2022, 12:45 AMHow would a youtube employee know anything?

If an employee is able to view uploads and other info before it goes public, that'd be huge news on its own.
No idea. I don't really buy it myself.

It's just the leading theory I've heard.

It's just speculation.  People just trying to make sense of what we know:

1. The leaks have been just before they become official.
2. The leaks have been across many companies which isn't typical for leakers with industry contacts.
3. To date the leaks have been 100% accurate. Not just what is being announced but when the announcement is being made.
4. The announcements being leaked have all been announced with a YouTube trailer.

Is it YouTube employee?   Maybe, maybe not.  Maybe a YouTube hacker would make more sense. The idea that the snitch can see when a company uploads a video for a scheduled release would explain the available evidence.

Anyone still expecting 2022 after this potential reveal delay?

Things are chaotic and game schedules are hard to predict even during the best of times.

of course 2022 unless officially announced otherwise.

i saw an article today that "confirmed" that today's announcement was delayed.   it's f'ing stupid that actual news sites report unverifiable rumors as facts.  nothing has changed here.   nintendo has yet to clarify their holiday line-up either.  have you decided to "confirm" nintendo has no line-up just because they haven't announced it yet?!?

returnal didn't get a release date until january 28th 2021 a mere 3 months before it's april release.  ratchet and clank rift apart didn't get a release date until feburary 11th 2021 exactly 3 months before it's june release.    the rumored november release of GoW:R is 4 months away.  we are not "owed" an announcement.

I still think its 2022, unless Sony for some reason wants it to be 2023. I can see sony thinking that they know they will continue to sell out this year. But perhaps by march next year they will have the stock problem sorted out, and want GoW to help push additional consoles

Or they want GoW to have a bigger install base at launch to sell too.

Cory says it isn't delayed.

I don't think it's delayed yet. There is still a possibility of it releasing this year, it's just getting increasingly less likely as the days go on.

I'd compare it to NASA's "mega Moon rocket" the SLS. A year ago people in NASA were very confident it'd launch in December 2021. Every time rumors of a delay came up, NASA employees would get annoyed because internally it was still on track for December 2021. Yet here we are in the middle of 2022 and the rocket hasn't launched. Delays are practically inevitable even when using risk informed deadlines.

I love Barlog's joke!

GOW is cross gen so install base doesn't matter  :'(

We're not owed anything and of course social media is mostly bottom feeders. I'm talking pure betting odds, just honest predictions of when you personally expect the game to release.

Horizon 2 got a date ~6 months before release, coinciding with a delay from late 2021. I think that game is more comparable since it's closer in scope.

you've been Debbie downer for like a year now.

I'm keeping my 100% confidence in 2022 until dec 12th is 3 months away.

even at 6 months that's massively shorter than how Sony used to handle their games announcing things like holiday XXXX 18-24 months out.   Sony is becoming more Nintendo like with announcements only a few months out.

I expected the game early this year. Go look at my very first post in this thread haha!

They've never done a release like this. Horizon and GT7 both had exact days announced 6 months early and every recent game has been at least given a generic time of year before that.

Would not describe Nintendo like that lol. BOTW 2, Splatoon 3, Metroid Prime 4, all announced years in advance.

God of War (2018) had a release date announced 3 months prior to launch.

Also let's be fair here, Sony has been a little weird with launch dates the past couple years.

They just announced TLOU Remake with less than 3 months till launch.
Demon's Souls they didn't announce that it was a launch game until less than 2 months prior.

GoW is announced.  that's not the same as being dated to which botw2, Splatoon 3, and Metroid 4 are not.   dates are coming late now being announced only when hitting the date is a guarantee.

GoW was given a generic time frame... 2022.

and fudge off they've never done a release like this.  TLoU remake was literally announced on June 17th with a Sept 2 release date.  LESS THAN 3 MONTHS FROM ANNOUNCEMENT TO RELEASE.

this is just like how there was no showcase from Sony at not E3. there marketing strategy has changed.

Early 2018 however was announced at E3 2017.

To be clear since people seem to be missing it, the weird thing is that we are 6 months into GOW 2's release window without any official updates. If they game had been officially H2 2022 since its delay last year, then it'd just be business as usual for Sony.

IMO I think most late 2022 games have a good chance of being delayed to 2023. The likelihood of GOW being delayed increases as its speculated release date gets later in the year, but that is not a reflection of how development is going.

I feel like that's not really the case anymore.

When was the last time Sony announced a launch window more specific than a year? I can't recall the last time they said "this game is coming first half of X"

Although that could be a sample size issue. They have only even announced a launch window of a year on a few specific occasions. (God of War, Spiderman 2).

Lately they seem to be waiting for a specific release date instead of providing the launch window.

Of course, anything could happen. But I haven't seen any indication for a delay.

Quote from: SchreierAfter talking with more folks yesterday, I can definitively say that there was a release date/pre-order announcement planned for yesterday. It was bumped at some point last week. I don't know why. (Speculation is because of Roe v Wade.) Also, PlayStation has been trying to keep secrets so badly that most SSM employees weren't even told about it.

As of this week the game is still on track for November. People working on it say it's huge and seem to be pretty excited about it. Reminds me of the buzz I was hearing before the 2018 one
