Imagine FEZ but with combat instead of platforming.

Shaping up to be goty quality.

that's high praise.

I don't believe you but I do intend to play once it's on PlayStation

It's not as good as fez and has gotten worse, but it captures a lot of the same magic in the same way.

This difficulty spike might be the worst I've ever experienced in a game haha.

One moment I'm beating a megaboss first try with ease, and then immediately afterwards I'm dying repeatedly to every random minion.

I only said goty  :P

So far it's a game of incredible highs and incredible lows. The opening was probably the best part, but maybe the ending will pull me back in towards being a big fan.

well you haven't talked me out of playing.  I'll just assume you're bad at the game and it will be easy for me.  xD

The best parts of this game are the ones ripped directly from FEZ, and there are a lot of them.

The rest is such a rollercoaster of highs and lows. Unlike FEZ it's too much of a metroidvania where some puzzles are impossible to solve till later in the game. I've lost interest in trying to solve things myself and instead I'm just progressing till the solutions are obvious. Way less fun.

The exception to that is the secret language. Like FEZ I'm sure there's something I can find to help translate it, but instead I figured it out myself. Was really fun and took a couple days. Now I can laugh when seemingly important dialogue is just the npc calling me an idiot.

I've never had my opinion of a game drop so significantly while playing it. I don't even know if I like Tunic anymore.

I reached the end credits. I was going for 100% completion without any outside help but after seeing the poor ending, I decided to just look up solutions for the only two puzzles I had left.

The final few hours of the game are laughably bad. There is one big major puzzle that's pretty good and 32 smaller ones that are mostly copy and pasted repeats. Like imagine a maze with no branching. Half the end game puzzles are that stupid. One specifically almost made me quit the game because it was so easy and absurd.

There are generally great parts/elements in Tunic but most of my joy in the early game came from me assuming it was a mystery worth solving. I thought it was just the tip of the iceberg. Who knows. I've yet to look up spoilers so maybe I actually did miss something.

I just don't know what I feel with this game. Maybe it still is the closest we'll ever get to a FEZ 2.

The early game is incredible because there is so much mystery and things could be anything. For example early on I found a note in the game's language that seamed to tease something pretty important. It was a big reason why I focused so much on translating the language early. In the end though the related puzzle was so unrewarding that it was 1 of the 2 I didn't even finish. There is also one puzzle that I just hate and I think it's clouding my judgement. It's just an unfinished room with a ridiculous premise and a trivial solution.

FEZ got better the longer you played because the mystery gradually became deeper. Meanwhile Tunic throws almost everything at you super early creating an illusion of depth, but one by one the game informs you that those things don't matter.
