you can say that,..  but unlike movies or mobile where there is a technical skill set that isn't the same as console game development GaaS will always feel like it could have been another GoW or spiderman if the dang business didn't get in the way.

also GaaS games all seem to be huge resource hogs.

I know we'll still get more games I want but every GaaS will probably annoy me.

....and I'm not so sure it will be a great way to be profitable either.  for every fortnight there are ten destruction all stars.  i have to believe a failed GaaS is a bigger failure than a failed single player.

They're resource hogs when they are successful. Haven is currently only 60 people.

So uh:

Multiplayer Action - Twisted Metal
Action Shooter
Narrative Adventure/Horror Game - The Persistence 2 maybe?
Horizon Call of the Mountain
Mobile title

With a measly 58 job openings, and over 300 currently working there.

Cool concept.

One of them is posing with a gun, wonder if that's a random prop or related to something they were working on.

not sure why that one guy is not wearing pants.   feel like that's going to get sony in trouble.

Well they did mistakenly leak the bluepoint games acquisitions in a similar manner.

Im not sure of Kojima Productions is such a smart buy though. So much of that studio relies on one guy, and he is close to retirement. Kojima Productions should prove they can make a good game without Kojima

never claimed it was a good buy.   just saw the article.

i think sony invested quite a bit to get the studio up and running on behalf of kojima.  he's influential for sure but it takes a team to make a game and i'm sure the rest of the talent is good at his studio.   also, i'm sure there is a succession plan in place.

Some thoughts and concerns about Sony's GaaS push:

1.) Putting GaaS where there really shouldn't be any. GT7 should not be always online. If there are modes where the game can be played by yourself, make sure it can be played offline. Unless there is a great gamer reason to not be played offline.

2.) Don't exploit the gamer.
They did fix this in GT7, but there after a certain patch the game seemed very exploitive. They made it really hard in game to get credits, while selling credits with real money. And for quite a bit of money. Again, they've fixed it and made the game much fairer and brought it in line with the previous titles (and I think even better now).

3.) Focus on content.
This is the one should be good thing about GaaS, games that are successful, should get supported with new content.

The way I think GT7 should have been handled:
As it is now after the recent patch, make an offline mode available, sell extensive expansions every few months.

As their first GaaS, they're off to a very exploitive rough start, but they're at least showing they can learn from it. And from what I understand, Bungie is pretty good about their business model by focusing on content.

So it's concerning, but it could be worse.

i can't find that other thread where we talked about it  wrt to MS but...

...i still think ads in f2p games is fair.  i still think billboard ads in sports games (or anywhere you'd actually see a billboard in real life) actually feels good.   i still think this is going to get abused to high hell shortly after it's implementation in f2p games.    ...but i'll never buy a game that requires me to take "ad breaks".   it's the main reason i skip a lot of f2p games in the first place.

wonder how this works out competition wise.   MS's system on xbox and Sony's system on PS?  Either system is fully multiplat and thus one more "front" of the gaming wars?

i just hope that if they do this it is actually "successful".   there is nothing worse than ads in places like hulu/spotify where you see the exact same ad streamed 10 times in a row because it is the only paying advertiser...
