Nice! I was worried the series was on ice.

yeah you'll be hard pressed to find studios that will use their own engine anymore.  UE5 is changing the landscape for the industry no doubt.  And its free and you have no royalties to pay until after you hit $1million in sales so its so good for smaller devs.

nintendo?

i'm not sure about this statement but i think they are still stubbornly using their own very dated tech.   it's probably the heart of why nintendo takes soo dang long to make such shaming looking games.  ..but they are so technology adverse that they'll never make the smart decision that a quality developer would...

i'm willing to bet that even nintendo devs will start to move over.  Unreal is one of the most highly versatile engines available.  There will still be some devs that use their own, but like dice and bioware are now moving to unreal as well.   Some of sony's studios will likely always use their own cause they have them matured so much, like ND and SSM

I think that's overselling it. Unreal and Unity have been available for years yet propriety engines keep being made and/or invested in.

Bioware always used Unreal and protested the mandate to use Frostbite. Are you sure dice is switching over?

in the past year or so since ue5 was announced there is so many more developers using it or switching from what i've seen.

And pretty positive bioware had not been using unreal since the mass effect trilogy. Their games before that were on a proprietary engine.  They used a modified UE3 for mass effect trilogy and was forced to use frostbite after that.  And now ME 4 is unreal. However the new dragon age is still frostbite as they say it will be too much to switch for that one right now.   I thought i saw a while ago Dice was going to go with unreal but maybe not.

CD Projekt Red is using it now which is a pretty massive shift for them.  Maybe i am overselling but from what i've seen its gonna be a massive shift to more devs using it but theres no doubt a lot will stick with any proprietary engines they've built.  Nanite and lumen along with fully integrated and free to use megascans is a huge incentive for devs to use it.

heheh. Yeah lumberyard is a non talking point at this point.  I'm still surprised amazon is even keeping it up and using it.
