Quote from: the-Pi-guy on Mar 31, 2022, 05:48 PMWell, Greg delayed his Playstation show, because he heard some rumors, and doesn't want to miss out on talking about it.

So he's explaining what he's heard.
He knew the PS+ news was coming. And he pulled a stunt with the 3 rumors thing to attract more people to his show. Now people will watch it hoping he says something about the "rumors"

He doesnt know shame. If he does.. say it. Say who they are buying, give us details.

with activision off the table...

....if the acquisition isn't EA, take-two, ubisoft, fromSoftware, or nintendo it isn't "really big".   i'd say 5/5 of those are not going to happen.

It sounds like the rumor is Sony buying Konami.

But I don't think it's happening.

Seems like a bad idea in the first place.

That would be so stupid

I dunno.

depends on if Sony can buy just the gaming related parts.  pes is a very relavent live service game.  DDR could make a nice comback today as a live service game.  metal gear could be handed back to kojima. Castlevania could easy be a big game if rebooted as well as GoW was.  plus a ton of great classic content for ps+++.

how many billions are we talking here?   double Bungie?   the entire market cap is 9.37 billion.  if Sony could buy just the gaming half and leave the plinko machines behind...

PES probably makes more then destiny by itself.   metal gear is a 10-20 million seller.  Castlevania could easily do 10-20 million if rebooted as well as GoW.

if these aren't worth it then neither was Bungie.   at 3.6 billion Bungie does a lot less than kanomi.

the industry is consolidating under MS's massive warchest.  it's either buy or miss out and they have some huge names under their belt.   hell, even simple ports of the new/snes turtles games made a big splash of an announcement.

PES generates money through mobile mostly. Not consoles.

I think you are highly over estimating the capabilities of castlevenia. And metal gear for that matter too.

In order for MG to reach its full potential metal gear needs to be done by Kojima. If he doesnt want to do it. He won't. Ans investing that much money into an IP which success hinges on one man isn't smart at all

When making aquisitions Sony probably considers IPs, personnel/talent, and profitability.

Their previous purchases have all been about personnel/talent, and bungie also profitability to add to their bottom line. With Konami they are paying a huge price for IPs that are doormat, with no talent or personnel to work on them. Vast majority of their studios have their own IPs to work on. Buying Konami wouldn't gain them any footing in the console space. And Mass market doesn't give a shame about legacy games. A small number of people do. Its just not worth it

It's a good thing that Firesprite is starting a mobile team.  8)

Sony is going to grow a lot into mobile, movies, GaaS.
I just hope it ends up feeling like it's in addition to, and not instead of their typical games.

kitler53

movies I don't mind at all.  that's clearly an "and".  mobile is probably an "and" as well.  GaaS is what will annoy me.

GaaS is most likely an "and" as well. Series like GoW, Horizon, and spiderman will continue to be.

ND always had a multiplayer team since UC2. They are clearly taking a shot at GaaS, but I doubt Sony will let their highest rated Single player studio whose last release sold 4 million in 3 days ditch doing what they do best.

SSM, insomoniace, GG, ND will continue doing single player, even if they take a crack at a MP game. Firesprite seem to be doing both GaaS and single player. Housemarque probably will do another single player as well. Bend is doing another open world game as far as we know. So yeah I doubt Sony will ditch what already makes them a shame load of money for GaaS. They will probably try to add GaaS to their already profitable lineup

the-pi-guy

Specifically, all of their GaaS teams are either new studios or new teams at their old studios.

Meanwhile, they've added around 5 single player teams. And I would expect their future acquisitions to focus on single player.
