I agree.

I especially hate how obvious it was. I wasn't more then 10-15 minutes in and I called the entire dang movie. and not just the major plot points,.. tons of minor points too.

The movie really wasn't subtle haha.
Quote from: Dr. Pezus on Feb 21, 2022, 10:03 AMI liked it. But the best part by far were the songs
I'm surprised the Oscar nominated song wasn't one I even remembered.

I have not seen Encanto.

Yet weirdly I like this song:

I would say I'm more interested in the facial expressions though.

It's really good though on repeat listening. Not as addictive as We don't talk about Bruno, of course.

uncharted was pretty good. lots of nods to the games. fun. I didn't hate wallburgs sully as much as I thought I would. Holland did great with drake,.. really nailed the humor.

I might go watch it this week if my friends agree to go

Also saw uncharted and felt about the same.

Wasn't a copy of the game but respected it more than I expected. Really looking forward to what they can do with the next one.

yeah. I was really impressed with Holland. I still think nathon Dillion is the perfect casting but I do suppose he's old. Holland really did great with that cocky, funny, improvisational style that I think is the Hallmark of Drake.

I'm not going to say I hate the Chloe that was presented on the screen,.. I did like her. ....but she didn't really match up with Chloe from the game. I kind of feel like that mashed her up with elena a bit too much by adding the romantic undertones.

maybe it fits with the game as when Chloe was introduced their was an untold history between them. but I dunno,.. Chloe just had so much more of a selfish swagger in the game.

Watched Encanto.

Was okay.

Spoiler for Hidden:
I am not disappointed with the story itself, but I was disappointed with the climax -> resolution.

In the space of like 5 minutes, Abuela is like this is all your fault to this is all my fault. With no story beat in the middle.

It feels like a Deus ex machina, but without the machina.

It bugs me.

Thinking about it some more, the movie has so much BS.

Bruno gets hated by the family, for warning them about stuff. And at the end, he's the one apologizing for stuff. Like what the f?

The grandmother does absolutely nothing to get back in Mirabel's graces.

A lot of the characters feel like they have a lot of depth, but the movie does absolutely nothing with them.

Bruno has been living in the walls for 10 years and that fact is basically ignored.
Feels like this movie had a lot of good potential that was squandered.

Feels like we need a sequel to explain all of that!

The movie is bad honestly. The more you think about it, the more you realize how bad it is

Spoiler for Hidden:
Bruno is treated like shame

The grandma gives merabelle shame for not having a power, when she doesnt have a power.

Its not explained why Merabelle doesn't have a power. Yes, the story isn't about the power and they didn't want to focus on that. But its still a lingering question, and the whole story is based on that point. Not answering that question is just bad writing to me, because they couldn't come up with a good reason.

The point if the movie is to show a great family and how much they love and care about each other. But if you think about it, the relationships they have are all very fickle and they turn on each other so fast. Merabelle and her sister hate each other. Everybody hates Bruno (Heck he "ran away" for 10 years and nobody even went looking for him, on the contrary they banned his name in the house). Merabelle and her grandma. And there are more examples but I forgot, as I watched the movie a while ago
what amazes me the most is how much passionate discussion we've generated declaring encanto as crud.

usually we just say a movie is bad and move on. ...so I guess it must have done something right.

I was dragged to it at the cinema by my friends and had to pay to watch it. I have to get my movies worth somehow... if that means I gotta shame on it then I will do so :P
