Spoiler for real spoilers:
There's a branching path at the start of the game. If you drop down deeper, you get the tutorial. If you go up the stairs you get to see the open world.

I skipped it the first time, because I figured I'd come back and go both ways.

Convenient for people who have played the game before. Less convenient for people who haven't though.

Probably haha. My brother was really into pvp in dark souls 2.

Spoiler for game design spoilers:
I'm a little irritated with the checkpoints. The sites of grace are overly easy to miss. It would be better if they were a different color or something. Otherwise from a distance they don't look that different from just random items. Which the map is full of.
There's no real spoilers here, but in case someone doesn't want to hear any specific impressions on the game.

There's some things that the game probably does better than any game I've played.

Spoiler for Hidden:
The world feels more cohesive, I would say.
But at the same time, some 7 hours in, I am not really feeling like it does anything that is 10 points higher than a Souls game.

Everything the game does well, feels like it comes at a loss of something else.

Spoiler for Hidden:
Exploration is fun, but it also makes the game feel aimless.

And you miss out on that sense of progression that the Souls game gave you.
Dark Souls guides: explain everything perfectly.

Elden Ring guides: This may or may not be necessary. I don't know. No one knows yet, the game just came out.

One of the pros of waiting to play. :P
