Quote from: BananaKing on Feb 24, 2022, 06:37 PMI only heard that on resetera. But 43 million sales say otherwise.

Honestly, the game (rdr2) is an absolute master piece.
I gave up on resetera. I've seen complaints on reddit and youtube, like this one with over 9 million views.

Keeping this thread from going off course though, it's kinda surprising imo that most of the uber scoring games on metacritic have divisive elements like BOTW with weapon durability. Wonder what if anything will be divisive in Elden Ring.

I didnt see that whole video. 37 minutes... hell naw

I saw the first 8 minutes and I got the jest of it.

I agree, with RDR2 the mission structure could have been more open, but it was telling a very detailed story, and they were controlling the pacing and story telling very carefully. And they wanted scripted moments to make them awesome. I reiterate, RDR2 is a masterpiece, and while the story and story missions arent that non-linear, the open world itself is, and its design is miles ahead of anything else out there.

BoTW only has a 97 because its a Nintendo game and fanboys who grew up with the franchise reviewed it. Glaring flaws like the weapon durability, lack of proper story, poorly executed side missions, were ignored during reviews. Even stuff like watch towers were ignored yet the same outlets blamed horizon ZD for having them just a week earlier. (Despite horizon making them a puzzle with the tall necks and somewhat interesting)

Last chance to preorder.

1.) It's amazing how this game totally blew out expectations. Critically it's several points higher than we really could have expected. Steam users are way higher than anyone could have expected.

2.) This is the first game I'll ever have played at the launch, technically an hour before launch.

Spoiler for graphical glitches:

Early yet.

Pretty disappointing performance but it's really expected with From games.
Quality mode has unlocked framerate and 4k, framerate most of the time 30-40 it seems.

Performance mode also unlocked framerate but seems to be 50-60 most of the time with variable resolution (ps5 often being a bit higher than XSX in both res and fps).

Best performing version is the PS4Pro version running on PS5 lol with rocksolid 60fps and 1800p

Loading times are by far fastest on PS5 (XSX 3 times slower)

Probably have to wait for digital foundry. No mention in that video

Elden Ring Isn't Running Great On PC Even After Patch
Game is having performance issues on PC. Maybe that'll be the divisive thing :P

On PlayStation, only played about 25 minutes.

I've had a lot of visual issues. A lot of pop in, some pop out. :P
No real frame rate issues. I know I've tended to be less sensitive to that. It usually never bothered me as long as it's above 20. ::P

But playing Dark Souls, Bloodborne back to back, the 30 fps choppiness of turning the camera was incredibly bothersome. At least that was the biggest issue for me. So me not seeing any issues might not mean anything. But it looked fine.

Spoiler for First Gameplay Impressions:

The actual motion feels just a bit off for me.
I also tend to like using X to select stuff in Souls games, and using X to jump in other games. So now it feels a bit off, with having X to do one thing and triangle to do the other. Something I will surely get used to.

It's also weird collecting berries and stuff like that, with a lot of Souls mechanics.

The world is so different from just about any game I've played. It's a genuine open experience unlike any Souls game I've played, and it's also a lot more brooding than any open world game.

It's of course much too early to say too much. But my first impressions are that it will be really good, but I don't think it'll top Bloodborne for me personally. (But again, way too early to be sure)

From what I've heard, I think that can change :D
