So I've forgot about this, then remembered and gave it some thought

As I said, I dont think capcom would be bought by either Sony or Ms, at least not in the short or mid term.

I think Sega and square won't be bought by either. Most of squares and pretty much of all of sagas games would diminish on xbox and pc. Final Fanstasy and kingdom hearts would die. Tomb raider already proved it won't be a big success on xbox only. And what else thats important that square has to offer? They arent producing GoTY contenders, they arent producing genre defining games. Xbox is dead in Japan, square is worthless to them. Sega too, all of MS's acquisitions have been western focused. And if MS wont buy them, sony won't bother.

Sonys studio acquisitions have been with ones they worked with. They had a close relationship with bungie, valkarie apperantly worked on GoW, and Firesprite have been working with them on Horizon VR. I doubt they want to ruin the aqualibrium of their first party by making a bunch of random additions, or a huge publisher overbloated with devs.

I think Sonys approach will be to continue to add to the ranks with studios they are more familiar with, rather than target huge publisher acquisitions.

Im guessing haven, and deviation will be bought once their games come out. Im gonna guess ember labs will continue to work with Sony for their next game, and if its a success then Sony will buy them

I am gonna guess Sony will buy from software or buy kadakawa outright in the next 3 years. And that would be one of their "biggest" acquisitions.

Im not sure about the legislation and legal side of things. But I doubt the EU would let MS buy Ubisoft after it bought ABK and Bethesda. So I doubt think Sony will try to buy them either

I'll continue this later

Xbox is doing far better in Japan compared to last gen. The Series S|X has already outsold the lifetime of the Xbox One. Not that it's doing well, but from MS's perspective it's a growing market.

Phil has said that he is interested in buying a Japanese developer and you know how persuasive he can be.

I would not say never.

This is something I've been thinking about as well.

Any publisher they buy is going to be a lot of baggage and trying to fit them into their process. They might go for it at some point, but it makes a lot more sense in the short term to just select studios. Particularly ones without IP, because they are a lot cheaper and Sony has a lot of faith in their ability to make new IPs.

I expect Bungie will be their one big purchase for the next couple years. I might be way wrong about this, but that's what I expect.

But I also expect they will buy up a number of smaller studios. Like 5 or 10 this year. They are going to need to bulk up this gen.
