really just bolster's the argument of the people that hate on timed exclusives.

QuoteMS could have developed their own game for $100 million.

it's close enough to true.  that kind of money could have made a AA game instead of just keeping a game off of ps.  not sure what sony is paying for their timed exclusives but i wager with all the timed exclusives they secured for ps5 they could have just bought bethesda...

Microsoft wanted an Uncharted competitor and Tomb Raider was already a big name.

It didn't help though, and in some ways I feel like it kind of dampened the trajectory of the franchise.

Bruh 100 million makes you a rather big AAA game. I doubt tomb raider had anywhere near that budget.

And yeah they could have made their own game. The issue with that argument though is finding the talent. MS certainly has an issue with building and cultivating talent.

Timed exclusives is just a bad strategy IMO. Long term it has little benefits. You don't keep the IP,  it doesn't push sales as much as a full exclusive, and they are very costly.

agreed but all the same i don't care.   100 million is a waste if it's only to fudge with my ability to play games on my platform of choice.  i'd love to feel pangs of FOMO on a compelling MS developed title.  i loath them for taking successful 3rd parties and locking them to their platform.   it's part of the reason i just flat-out refuse to buy and xbox right now even if they are doing other things well.

That's a lot of money. I understand why the studio accepted.

Was such a weird choice though. Randomly making #2 in a trilogy a timed exclusive. Should have been like Mass Effect and selected a franchise that was just starting.
