Hardware ranks completely switched round in Feb in the UK.
Extra info: Switch Jan+Feb is up 80% YoY. PS5 and Switch are neck and neck for YTD so far (within a few hundred units).

So due to all the info he gave us, this means XBS did not increase MoM (or if it did, it did it just barely). XBS was #1 last month so sold at minimum ~50k. This month if it sold ~50k or more it pushes Switch Feb 2020 down to less than 33% market share due to the maths around it, which doesn't gel with the comments of Switch being "comfortably" the number one seller that month.

Learning much more is difficult though. If I assume my initial estimate last month wasn't too far off (and unfortunately it could be a bit off) then we have rough estimates:

Jan 2020: XBS ~53k, Switch ~45k, PS5 ~42k
Feb 2020: PS5 ~ 78k, Switch ~75k, XBS ~32k

Note the Feb numbers are a high end for XBS and low end for PS5&Switch assuming Jan is correct, but I really can't see XBS going lower.

So yeah, Xbox had a down month. Stock is a bit unstable at the moment!

Genuinely great sales for PS5 in Japan right now. 33k in a normal week if it was a regular baseline would be a very healthy console. Switch is holding at its crazy high level too.

Its looking like PS5 will stay ahead global launch aligned. It just needs to not see a sudden drop in stock.

PS5 back down. I guess the 30k+ week was a one-off. Switch is something else, wowzas. Also I made a graph to track the PS4 PS5 comparison.

The graph runs to the last week of 2014/2021. If PS5 sold an average 20k a week from here it would be about 360k ahead of PS4 in this battle at the end. PS4 sales were really bad in 2014.

Pretty good! I felt like this sequel received hardly any attention so I'm glad it did well.

Global console market reached record high of $53.9bn in 2020 | GamesIndustry.biz

$53.9bn total spent on consoles in 2020 (includes all forms of spending). Market shares:

Playstation 46%
Nintendo 31%
Xbox 23%

67% of revenue generated on game purchases was digital. So we're 2/3 digital globally now (by revenue).

Playstation is exactly double xbox.

Would be cool seeing US and UK specific stats where xbox is closer.

This also shows that market share has moved beyond console sales. Switch sales have been absolutely insane this past year, but they still have 15% less revenue.

Yeah for sure. Seeing people try to argue that Nintendo/ Switch were market leaders last year was.... something. Playstation still has a huge lead in the console market, and 2020 was probably the most favourable for Nintendo its going to be in a long time.

Switch sales were insane. And some first party titles sales were bonkers as well. But nowdays its rhe size of the "ecosystem" that matters. More.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales scores its first No.1 as PS5 stock levels improve | UK Boxed Charts | GamesIndustry.biz

PS5 stock has been excellent WW since mid-Jan, very much outpacing PS4 in a similar time frame. If they can keep it up then it will be a really big first year after all.
