Xbox One games also have Series X logos, making it almost impossible to know what you are buying.

Super weird.
Differences being:
-The latter is $10 more expensive
-The former has less features

But they still play on both consoles.

BC, cross buy, etc have never been so confusing.

I'd imagine plenty of store assistants wouldn't even know the difference.

They should change the black part to "Also playable on Xbox Series X" (I just noticed they swapped which one is listed first.  lol)

Also, this cover really makes it look like there's plenty of room for that "Xbox Series S" branding.  ;)

i feel like this is a spin off from the other thread i just read:
https://vizioneck.com/forum/index.php?topic=8247.msg256680#new

my hot take is that xbox wanted to make it so every xbox one game played on xbox series x as a single sku so that the upgraded next gen version was "free" to customers.  In that case having a "confusing" cover is not a problem because everything plays everywhere.

...but publishers said fudge that i want money for that upgrade to next gen.  now xbox is an a weird position where they sold customers one thing but publishers are refusing to participate in that vision.

not sure where i stand on the matter.  on the one hand i like free stuff.  on the other i don't feel entitled to free stuff.  100% i expected BC from current to next gen but i can't say i ever thought about the implications of the game not being identical.   i guess i feel like a free upgrade is the "right" thing to do but i'm not without empathy for the publishers on this matter either.

Maybe they should take off the 4K, HDR logos from the Xbox One.  Technically you aren't going to see that on Xbox One.

And it'd at least make the consumer feel like they're getting something more by getting the $10 more expensive version.

Silly Pi. Series S is supposed to be digital. No need to be on the case.

Matt: the Xbox covers aren't final.
Someone: that's a relief
Matt: the finals aren't much better.

;D

do we have any rumor or confirmation on if series s will be able to play every game on series x?    it still seems suspect to me that the series x is listed and there is clearly room for another console to be listed in that banner...

Series S is digital only. Can't list it on retail boxes so who knows.

i still want to know an answer to my quesiton.   is series s support mandated to be on the xbox platform or are "exclusives" allowed.   this is strictly a platform owner policy decision so what decision did they make?

We don't know.

The assumption seems to be no exclusives.  But that could run into issues.
