Super weird.

Awesome - Astro bot is a full game.
Weird - only real new thing about the controller was showing the back.

Also Geoff really leaned into that PS3 reference pretty hard.

"I unlocked a PS3 on a PS5!  ;D "

Just going to disappoint people.

This whole thing was just weird.

Sony makes an effort to reach out to Geoff to show off some features of the controller that are pretty darn impossible to show off on screen.  So all you really get are the descriptions, which we already had before.
And they weren't even in depth about those descriptions.  He actually spent some time talking about the audio, even though players could already experience that on PS4.

And the interview didn't really include anything new either.  It just was a lot of generic marketing talk.

Just feels like a lot of effort for so little gain.

It just feels like the kind of thing that should have just been dropped. Instead of announced prior.

Did people get hyped for this? I got more than I expected.

I dont think anyone got hyped.

It's just weird because it feels like they went through a fair number of hoops to do this, and it could have frankly been skipped.

Just shipped him a test kit. Probs going to let him play other games in the future.

Well they had someone there take it from him afterwards.

Ok I'm team odd now.

Dr. Pezus

Feels like a response to Phil Spencer and his talk about gamers bringing what they've spent into next gen.

SWORDF1SH

Geoff did a bad job describing his DualSense experience.

No one has really talked about it here, I don't think.

But there's a part of the Astro demo, where there is apparently an 8 second load. (At about 5:20).
Which is surprisingly long.

That is long, even ignoring ssd. Wonder if it is temp, if astro bot has some beefy ram stuff, or if it's just part of development.

it's hard to say for sure.   it could be just an overly complicated transition animation.   it's clearly a place where traditionally a load time would be hidden.   but as a transition animation they first vaporated the bot, then entered the portal, then spead up the portaling speed, then arrived.

traditionally the types of transitions took a long time to make room for the load time.  ...think like the 200 story elevator.   but clearly buildings will still have elevators in games and these types of transitions will still need to occur even if there isn't a technical need for loading.  i think in this case an animation to transition the player from one area to another is still required to keep the player feeling like the world is consistent.   so the question is,.. did the game need 8 seconds or did it just take 8 seconds anyways?
