Are you investing lots of money to make a better smaller cooling system?
Or are you just using your old cooling system but throwing more fans at it?

As I was saying the fan requirement is different for how the PS5 is designed.  It basically has to work for the worst case 100% of the time, and do it well.  So they might have done kind of a mix. Where they invested in a better cooling system and basically doubled the fans to make sure it works as intended.
Well I just mean in general for electronics smaller means more expensive. The same parts in a smaller box is inherently more expensive to make, one of the reasons laptops are more expensive than desktops with the same specs. The PS5 being large means they don't have to spend as much money trying to downsize parts.

The cooling system is a whole different consideration and we have no idea what Sony are doing with it. You'd also expect though that the bigger box means the cooling system can be cheaper as it has much more space to work and there's less need for smaller, specialised parts which are expensive to make.

I really feel like people are ovestimating the depth.
We only really have like one or two pictures that really show off the side, and they're at an angle.  So it's totally possible it's just messing with me.

But most of the renders and estimates seem to think the depth is like ~80% of the length.
Like they're right around: 3.5"x12"x15"

Someone on Era made this:

Which would put it more in the realm of ~9".  But again perspective makes it difficult.

I've seen this quote tossed around in a lot of articles lately from Matt MacLaurin, the vice president of UX Design at PlayStation

"Customization with special editions will be beyond anything seen before."

I think that all but confirms the white fins are going to be easy to remove and replace with a custom ones.   not something i will personally partake in but i can really see a strong market for custom plates.   if some people are willing to pay $300 for a whole new console just because of the design i'll wager those same people will by $1000 for 10 different interchangeable plates to customize their look.

We have a video. Why hasn't anyone used it to create a true 3d model? No guesswork needed.

Aye, both the controller and the system seem to have parts that aren't flush like most, and very much seem like they might be removable.

I think we were already thinking that there was a chance that the white panels on the controller were removable.

The console itself has a similar panel look.  Could just be the style, or they very well could have made the panels removable for customization.

It's interesting that the op video is getting all the love instead of this sizzle.

I'm very much in the:
Horizontal: lump is better
Vertical: digital is better
Camp.

PS5 looks great horizontal, PS5 de looks like it is wearing an oversized cape.

Really cool pic!

Big!

XSX: ~432 in^3
PS5 looks to be in the range of 466.2 - 525 in^3.  A bit smaller than people were thinking.
