Ha yeah I have no idea why they named the menu for save options "story", it makes no sense.

Quote from: Legend on Dec 23, 2018, 01:24 AMThey really have open world jank to them.

In general I'm enjoying the game. It feels exactly like Assassin's Creed 3 to me for some reason. Lots of open world jank in the gameplay too though. I really don't understand the save/checkpoint system. Most of the time death/failure rewinds time to a checkpoint but other times it doesn't. I was fighting a bear from a main mission and I couldn't shoot the bear because the game thought I'd be more interested in investigating its tracks. Instead of fighting back as the bear was eating me I just wanted to restart from the checkpoint and purposefully died. Instead it spawned me a way back and removed the bear and mission related things.

I also am liking roleplaying as an outlaw but already had that immersion broken too. I was fetching a person as a bounty hunting quest and decided to bring them back to my camp and try converting them to my team instead. It's not like this needed to be a mechanic but the game just put up an invisible wall to stop me.

I wonder if this is common amongst other devs that do graphics related work?

I feel like this whole gen has been pretty ugly except for a few exceptions.
Yeah its definitely you, I just watched a stream of RDR2 for a bit and I think the character models look amazing. I don't understand how you can call most things ugly?

Yeah i felt the faces were great, so don't know what you are smoking! There are certain characters who do have not the best faces, but most of the main characters are great.

I do agree with there being a lot of gameplay jank, mostly having issues with gunplay and horse riding. Though I got used to them. Plus this game is waaaaayyyyyy too long, imo. The fudgy epilogue took me 12 to 14 hours easily. That's a lot for an epilogue.

I still wouldn't say it was the most amazing narrative, but it was still great. Arthur is fantastic! God of War is still my GOTY by a fair bit.

Legend is in crack! This game is the most beautiful game on the PS4. (Haven't played GoW yet though).

I got used to all of them as well, and I think the game is a little too long. Chapters 2 and 3 should be much shorter, since the story only gets going at the end of chapter 3. Epilogue part 1 should also but about half the size, I love epilogue part 2 though.

Man this year has been by far my worst for buying games and not finishing them. My attention span for games really is shrinking, if there's not any engaging story or the game isn't super fun to play I just end up dropping them so much nowadays.

In the past, I always finished the games I got, probably because I didn't get many, but this year I didn't get any more than usual and I've been way worse. Games I've not finished that I got this year:

Shadow of the Colossus Remake - got completely bored, have no idea why people love it so much

The Crew 2 - so much worse than the first's driving physics, and the buggy over the top rubber banding made me quit. I may go back now its been fixed.

Octopath Traveler - I loved the demo but it soon became a massive slog to play. Every fight takes way too long, there's too many stories to keep track of and none of them are interesting in their own right

AC Odyssey - I loved Origins, but I did start to get tired of it towards the end. I got tired of Odyssey even quicker, the gameplay just doesn't feel good any more and the story was just so odd and lacking of details that I didn't care

DQXI - I'm liking it quite a lot but I got fed up with a boss that killed me twice in a row through what felt like battleship, and the last save being 30 mins before (with no option to save later). Don't really want to face having to hop back in and grind loads just to maybe get beaten by battleship again, but I'm going to give it another chance at some point

This year has also been by far my best for 9+/10 games. I've given 7 games this year a 9/10 or higher, which beats my previous high of 6 (last year). So maybe the higher quality games I've been playing has making the lower quality ones seem even worse than normal?

Spoiler for Hidden:
These are my 9/10+ games so far this year:

GOW
RDR2
Celeste
Spider-Man
Forza Horizon 4
Smash
Astro Bot

Perhaps Moss/ Tetris Effect could make it there too.

I bolded the TLDR :P

I really hate abandoning games. I haven't played Pokemon Moon in over a year but I still think of it as a game I'm currently playing haha.

GOW, Mass Effect Andromeda, and AC Origins are I think the only games I played this year pre December. I finished all three.

I don't know how you can play so few games in a year! I've played 17 games from 2018 so far (actually more but the others weren't enough for me to rate them).

I'd love to play more games. I just don't have any free time.

Stop making games then! :P

the-pi-guy

I've finished Super Mario Bros 3, Astrobot, God of War 1+2,

I've played a little Crash, a little Superhot, a lot of Minecraft, a little of Skyrim VR, quite a bit of Brass Tactics.

That's all I can think of.
More games than I thought!
