Oh also watched Tomb Raider. Was good. Basically a stripped down version of both reboot games using story stuff from each.

BTW, I liked the movie but wasn't overly impressed
I understand not being impressed. It was a very "me" movie and did the types of things I love.

Also was great that it avoided so many tropes.

Spoiler for Hidden:
The team worked together and the boss didn't keep secrets. Natalie Portman was the only one that had anything close to ulterior motives but they were logical and minor. The lady that went crazy wasn't over the top and still tried to protect them once the monster attacked.

Speaking of that monster, that was just so creepy and awesome.
Quote from: nnodley on Jun 06, 2018, 03:21 PMI actually just watched it last saturday! I loved it. Loved the score at the last bit of the movie.
Sound design and music were incredible. That last bit was the best by far.
Spoiler for Hidden:
Was such a WTF moment like in 2001 a space odyssey but it actually made sense.
I'm shocked the movie didn't get oscar nominated for score or anything.

Which parts of tomb raider were from the second game? I enjoyed it too but didn't pick up on any of those outside setting up the sequel.

I watched Red Sparrow too. Was ok/good. Wasn't the type of spy movie I expected.

Tomb Raider spoilers
Spoiler for Hidden:
mostly just the trinity aspect and anna being in on it like in the second game. They basically just added that into the story of the first game, minus the supernatural aspect himiko/yamatai had in the game as well unless trinity was alluded to in the first and i'm not remembering?.

I think trinity was alluded to in the first.

Will be interesting to see how they handle supernatural stuff in the second. Can't really explain away Jacob with science.

What would you consider to be a very "you" movie? You compared it to Avatar in one way before, and iirc we are both very positive on Avatar. If we have similar film tastes I'll probably like it :D

It's a lot closer to Arrival than Avatar.

"me" movie is hard sci fi that doesn't hold back. Don't go in expecting too much though since it definitely helped that wasn't expecting anything specific from it.

Are we going to start licking DVDs? Already was a thing with 3DS games.

I haven't seen Arrival yet either!

Yeah I do love that too. Its one of the reasons I loved Avatar, I just thought it was all so incredible.

Start? Its already one of Pi's biggest hobbies!

With Tuesday's numbers, Solo has finally matched Rogue One's 3 day opening weekend gross. Only took 12 days ...

Domestically? Its barely going to make 200m. Probably finish around 220. Its going to struggle to 400m worldwide.

I know it'll probably be garbage, but the Slenderman movie looks like it could be a fun late night beer and pizza movie.
