All that is asked of us, is that we memorize a few digits on this remarkable day.

That's what I got off the top of my head. A decade ago on Pi day I memorized a lot of it but that's all that's stuck with me.

At one point I was working on memorizing digits.  Got to about 160, and that was about the time when I created an account on VGC.  Wasnt sure what to call myself.  And here I am.

Only remember about the same number .

What do you know, it is the 14th.

Of MARCH!!!

I'm baking homemade pie right now. I carved Pi on it cause I'm a rebel.

I only ever bother to know the first 4 digits of Pi. I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I've actually needed to remember the number that accurately anyway. Pi day is my mum's birthday, which is much more important!

With only 50 digits, you can get the circumference of the entire universe with fantastic accuracy.

But the universe isn't a circle...

"The observable universe is a spherical region of the Universe comprising all matter that can be observed from Earth at the present time"

Spheres have circumference too. :P

Yeah computers treat Pi as 3.141593 and even in double precision it's defined as just 3.14159265358979. You really don't need that many digits.

Yeah I just use whatever my calculator/ computer thinks Pi is. It doesn't matter.

You're thinking of if the universe is curved, right?

Pi is talking about just the observable bubble that by definition would be a sphere/almost sphere.

Scientists don't actually know what the shape is, this includes the visible portion.  They just have assumptions of what it can be based on math.  At least that's what I gather from Wikipedia when I went to verify my comments.
