Pretty strange that critics are amazed but early imdb score isn't that high (8.2 and dropping).

Reading reddit, era, facebook comments and talking to people who've seen it, it seems like a lot of fans are disappointed with it and think there's a lot wrong. With TFA and Rogue One, obviously there was people who didn't like them but they were a minority, whereas this seems like a 50/50 split right now.

I honestly don't get why the critic score is so high, there is quite a lot which is very obviously wrong with the film. Unlike TFA and Rogue One, where for the next day I couldn't stop thinking about all the cool moments and how great it was, for the last day I've just been thinking about how boring and bad certain parts of the film were. Like what should have been cut, what I would want to change.

For me it feels like a 7/10 that is so, so close to a 9+/10 but it just made a couple of very bad decisions in terms of pacing and plot.

I mainly watch and judge films for enjoyment and entertainment. In that regard TLJ falls very far short of TFA and RO, and short of all the OT too I think. That's why fans might not be liking it as much, I know that's the case for me.

Whereas from a technical standpoint, its an excellent film which is why critics will rate it high.

So if you're someone who likes to critique films and take them very seriously, you'll probably like it a lot more than if you're just going to have some fun.

Sounds like the opposite of TFA. I hated that movie a lot but at the same time it was very polished and it was enjoyable. Wonder if a director's cut or something will be popular with this film.

Yeah I'd say it is. Hopefully it means TLJ will get better with re-watches, since TFA keeps getting worse.

To be honest, The Force Awakens is %100 for a market that most people aren't.  I call them the "Smash Bros." crowd.  Not the pros mind you.  The kids who grew up with a Gamecube and were around 22 when The Force Awakens came out.  So we'll look at things differently.  They're easily pleased.  In a way, it's a bit envious because they enjoy things without "hating".  On the other ends, they're fanboys which can be annoying.  I personally though it was a "sloppy" movie that needed a few more rewrites.  It's also why you notice more flaws as you watch it.  Those "Smash Bros." crowd won't notice issues after the fact.

I don't think I've ever seen a movie start so many plot points and then throw them away.  Last Jedi isn't the worst movie I've seen, but it's the most worst put together film I've seen.  I have no idea how the script was ever okay'd.

I know it throws away a lot of plot points from TFA but what of its own plot points does it throw away?

Fin and whatever her name was needed to find that code breaker.  They never find him, they take another one instead.
That code breaker they found didn't even hack the system, he just pulled some wires.
They get to the tracking device and get captured.  That entire plot point was pointless since they never actually end up destroying the tracker.
They never needed to destroy the tracking device in the first place because they were going to use cloaked ships.  This entire plot thread was half the movie, if not more.
This entire thing could have been avoided if that commander woman just answered fin's question in the first place about the plan to sneak off.
They introduced that commander woman just to kill her.
They start this battle to stop the battering ram cannon and instead of stopping it, Fin gets hit by his new girlfriend.
I'm sure I'm missing more.

It&#39;s because this film is all about characters and choices. Sometimes they make the wrong choices, and they all make mistakes. It was a mistake to go on that mission and it was a mistake to find the different code breaker. The film does this intentionally, it&#39;s not like they have terrible writing and had to try and force stuff together. And everything has consequences, they are often the development of character. <br><br>Although I didn&#39;t really like that particular plot thread; I thought it was boring and pretty unecessary. It&#39;s definitely the weak point of the film.<br><br>I though she was a great character, and her and Poe&#39;s story showed the real struggle of the rebellion and the mistakes made in the impulse of war. It was great for Poe&#39;s character development in particular. <br><br>Yeah well Finn knew that so he was going to destroy it at all costs, but Rose stopped him. That was an impulse of her character and you could argue it&#39;s a mistake.<br><br>I think this is a really deep film, that develops incredibly real feeling and meaningful characters. If you think it&#39;s a terrible film then you just don&#39;t appreciate this/ care about it. I thought it was boring often but I still get the great things the film did.<span style="font-size: 1em;" class="bbc_size"> </span>
