North West is now called SIE Manchester. Just so you guys don't get shame on by someone on some other forum for using the old name. People are dicks.

Sony Santa Monica is now Santa Monica Studio too, but I'm still not used to that name change.

It's been Santa Monica Studio for as long as I can remember. People have been calling it Sony Santa Monica for a long time and I just figured it was another way of naming it. You're really not wrong for still calling it that. Considering that its full name is SIE Santa Monica Studio.

You're right...

In 2014 when they revealed their new logo I thought that was a name change. Never realised they were always called Santa Monica Studio.

Yeah they're large. About 3 feet to an edge.

So who wants to skip watching Sonys conference live and instead watch it with me two hours later? I will of course barely post anything in chat during the conference, since I'll be too busy watching the show. That's an enticing offer isn't it? :D

This guy is claiming the E3 demo of GOW last year was just a concept. Full game dev wasn't started until after the positive reception. Not going to be anywhere close to early 2018.

He might end up right about the date, but he obviously is wrong about the demo. Maybe he's bogus, or maybe he's confused since it was a vertical slice.

So do we believe this random guy or the devs, who said not long after e3 that the game was fully playable start to finish? I'll go with the devs.

Also that poster is looking great

Lol horseshit. There is no way Sony cancelled Santa Monica's new IP in early 2014 and then pretty much had Cory Barlog and the other 150+ people they had after the layoffs largely sitting on their asses for over 2 years later while they figured out how to make a concept demo and then didn't begin full production until after they made sure people would like it. Remember, it was already stated late last year that the game was playable from start to finish. No fudgy way full development didn't begin until after E3 if they were able to have it in that kind of state within a few months. This game has easily been in the works for years now.

But honestly the skeptic in me says why believe Cory. He has a valid reason to lie in this situation as much as he has to tell the truth. Likely he might not even be allowed to tell the truth. That comes back to simply staying silent.

Okay, so they waited until E3 to see the reactions to a fake demo and then started working on the game when they reception was positive?
To a game that Sony busted a 5 minute orchestra too? They weren't confident in that game? That they gave a 10 minute demo to and opened their conference with?
Like... logic tells me that the "insider" knowledge sounds like a load of shame.

And what would they have done if the audience reacted unfavorably? Would Cory have to go on stage next E3 and say: "hey remember when we showed Kratos with a kid in the Nordic mythology? Yeah he's back in Greece now" *rolls new demo*

Also, these two posts are what I was also thinking. A big orchestra to start the show followed by a lengthy demo for a game they weren't confident in that would end up being extraordinarily fudgy awkward if Barlog had to come out and present a different project or direction later because people didn't like the demo?

It doesn't even matter when God of War releases. It could be a Holiday 2018 title. I'd be fine with that and I'm sure a lot of people would be. Plenty of games coming between now and then. But this guy just sounds like he's trying too hard to disappoint people and he's trying to make it all sound legitimate by claiming battleship about the state of the game's development. As if he has inside knowledge while completely ignoring what we already know to be true about the state of Santa Monica Studio and the game. Plus, I have my doubts that Sony is plastering an image of God of War on the same building they plastered Horizon on last year if that game isn't intended to be released within a year from this E3. Sony has a dang buffet of games they could choose from to do that with. Doesn't make any sense for them to do that with a game that is still 12 months or more from release. Wouldn't be the craziest thing they've ever done but they could have just tossed Gran Turismo, Uncharted, Days Gone, Spiderman, Death Stranding, Detroit, Knack, or any other of the many games we've known about just as long or longer that people are expecting even earlier.

It was a realtime demo but scripted was what I said. I never said "video". Your characterization of my original statement is a fine example of blowing things out of proportions.

You now say it was a realtime demo though this was your original statement.

The E3 version was all smoke and mirrors. They are pretty much starting over from what I was told. 2017 will be a miracle.

Then you go back to non-working game code and proof on concept phase.

I totally stand by what I said since it's true. And what I said last time was that the reveal "demo" they showed was not even a working game code then. It was just a scripted proof of concept. With the reaction from E3, they decided to go ahead in that direction.  Anyways, you will know soon enough that I'm telling you more truth. It's gonna miss this holiday and next January by many months.

If it was a realtime demo, they had working game code.  Stating that they all the sudden decided to make their decision on the new gameplay style based off of people's reactions is ridiculous.  Also saying it was a scripted demo doesn't mean jack shame.  We have heard from devs that not doing scripted demos for events is nerve wrecking because one thing happens that's not suppose to, the game will crash. This is also ignoring that not only did Cory himself call your claim nonsense back when you said it, he also before years end that... -The game is playable start to finish -He finished the first full playthrough of the game with the leads -Most of the shooting had been completed with only a few things left to shoot Again, he stated all that before the end of 2016.  Also the behind closed doors demo that was shown with mentions of exploration, crafting, armor, finding idols and such. We have also already seen the collectors edition for the game leak.  Making claims that the game will be "playable" late 2018 at the earliest is asinine. You are also the only one that has stated a single thing about development issues with the game.  So it's either you are making shame up / believing grade A battleship, or everything Cory has said as well as those in the gaming press are lying their asses off.

Just for the LULZ

I'm sure the controller did some things. Controlling the camera for instance. Maybe even controlled some elements for the character. But I was told it was mostly scripted and not a "playable" code as most ppl think of game demos. For instance, at the time of the demo, Kratos couldn't even jump on command.
