While Software sales can be attributed to digital in some part... Hardware sales drop is really worrisome... they will possible close more stores.
And I say good. Either two things will happen. Gamestop will change to more pro-consumer practices to stay afloat or other retailers/storefronts will outcompete it out of existence.

Same, they honestly deserve to go belly under

Well price cuts did happen. That surely affected the revenue.

It made the radio today.  They're closing 3% of their stores.  Funny cause I remember when I started working there they were doing massive expansions.  I have no clue why they thought that was a good idea.

"That's because the biggest names in gaming -- Playstation maker Sony (SNE) and Xbox maker Microsoft (MSFT, Tech30) -- haven't updated their consoles in a while, Raines said. That creates a lag in business for retailers like GameStop."

Sony just released two "updated" consoles this past fall with Microsoft releasing another one this fall...

It's not even like the original consoles are that old yet...

The excuse makes no sense at all.

How they lived all these gens with consoles being refreshed each 7-9 years.

Well gamestop had handhelds selling a shame ton more software and hardware both new and second hand.

PSP hardware and software decline to vita is massive.

DS to 3ds both software and hardware massive decline.

Wii to Wii U both hardware and software a massive decline.

Xbox for the first few years in the US at least steady enough a ps4 growing a lot over ps3.

Ps4 gains not nearly enough to offset the big declines of vita,  Wii U and 3DS. It's no wonder business is bad.

"because Sony and MS have waited longer than 3 years for new consoles like they have never done before.  Our sales are down.  Never mind the rise of digital sales, and subsequent decline in reselling games.  Never mind that portables are down.  Never mind the fact that a lot of major franchises have yet to release a new major title like Elder Scrolls, Gran Turismo, and others.  I'm just going to go and make pretty much the only excuse that makes absolutely no sense just to show off how little I know."

You phrased my thoughts perfectly XD

It feels so weird to me.  The PS4 came out in 2013.  Wasn't even out in Japan until February of 2014.
The PS4 has barely been out 3 years in Japan.
That feels so weird to me.  Feels older.

But if there was a sequel already, that'd make it one of the shortest gens ever.

This gen has been so enjoyable for me it actually feels shorter.  I don't want to see a ps5 until 2020 minimum. That's 3 years at the very least.

3.5 years if they go for a holiday release.  I'm good with that.

I've been guessing 2019 for awhile now based on things Sony has mentioned in passing. Pachter, despite me not caring much for his guesses, seems to believe the same thing.

I, too, think Sony will be better off not releasing the PS5 until 2020. By then, Sony may be able to opt for a Ryzen+/Navi APU instead of a Ryzen+/Vega APU.
